new alternator, battery

The car repair shop just said I need a new battery and alternator. This time I'd like to get the best quality parts myself and just have them install it. What would you recommend is the best part below that I can buy for my 99 4Runner?

1. Alternator
^ I read that ACDelco, Denso, and Bosch are good brands for 4Runners but I don't see any for my 4Runner on Amazon that I can order.

2. Battery
^ I read that Odyssey and Northstar are good but once again I can't find any for my 4Runner on Amazon.

3. replacement antenna
I've not seen consistent recommendations for any specific brand (Boss, Metra, etc). Thoughts?

bonus:
What is the electronic called that allows me to play songs on an iPhone or iPad to the 4Runners speakers (factory)?

I just purchased a brand new alternator from Toyota which is a denso remanufactured to Toyota specs.

It was $198.00 from conicelli Toyota online I believe.

I also run the odyssey Extreme series batter which is pretty pricey at around $290 from batterymart but it’s very nice.

I recently had a bad alternator and installed an AC/Delco CS144. Got it on amazon brand new for less than 100 bucks. Double the amps power than my stock 97 4runner one. WOrking out good so far. I have 2 amps for my stereo so that extra power helps. Install wasn't bad at all, 1st time doing an altenator. Pretty straight forward, used the forums for help. Lots of info for the CS144 alternator install. They make a plug adapter to make install a breeze, all plug and play. bought a new Interestate battery at Costco. I'm happy.

I just go to Walmart and purchase their highest amperage battery. Works great for me

x2 on you can install a CS144 yourself. Its one of the easiest mods you can do on the engine. Watch you tube and learn for yourself, Overtime time your courage will increase and you will be doing much more.


Most batteries are made by the same company so it really doesnt matter. From you post I just reccoment getting a Walmart or autozone battery. I went with an autozone agm but thats just me.

Best alternator: OEM
Best battery: Odyssey or Lifeline (you did say BEST)
Replacement Antenna: OEM if it's the one that retracts/extends electrically
Play your devices with: Bluetooth FM transmitter (try Amazon)

I'd look into a X2Power battery from Batteries+Bulbs.

It's made by Northstar and is exactly the same battery internally.

It also carries a full 5 year replacement warranty vs. 4 by Northstar.

It's an expensive battery, but there is always a 10% off code on their web site and there is also a $20 rebate through Sept.

I will be buying one of these in about a month.

When it comes to electronic parts, from plugs to sensors to anything else, NEVER use Bosch, or anything other than NGK or Denso.

OEM isn't going to be the best for the alternator, sorry purists.

Toyota doesn't build the alternator in the first place (they are usually Denso or ND units) - and when you buy from the dealer - it IS NOT NEW. They are remanufactured - which is a fancy word for rebuilt.

You can buy the pieces to rebuild (even Denso parts) for quite cheap in comparison to what Toyota asks for the rebuilt alternator.

In my experience- best bet is find a good original JY alternator or a high quality rebuild that offers a lifetime warranty, even from somewhere like Napa.... or find a way to upgrade amperage.

Those with the lifetime warranty are generally rebuilt in the same manner the Toyota units are and have read nearly as many stories of Toyota rebuilt units failing as others.
