new battery lines - mainly v8 question but not sure it matters

Hi Guys

I'm going to be replacing my battery soon and I'm looking at the a Duracell AGM 34m. Which have the terminals on the "other" side of the battery (closer to the headlights). I know I'll need to extend my battery lines. So I figured I'd just rerun new battery lines.

Should I redo the battery lines with 4 gauge or 0/1 gauge? Any reason to not just do 0 gauge? Can I really go TOO big?

I suppose not enough enough resistances could be bad. thoughts?

thanks!

Thanks for the link. but that doesn't talk about what gauge to use.

It mentions once they use 0 gauge.

I know if I were to do the big 3 I would use 0 gauge but is using 0 gauge for the main battery line okay?

Thanks

i return the battery for the 34r , why go through more trouble to make it work, when you can just spend 15 minutes and have a new battery in place.
you can also get a bigger battery.

I was trying to get a 34M,

idk doesn't seem like sam's sells a 34r

why don't you get a 31M? That's the biggest one I've seen several people upgrade too. I would also wait for the Northstar Group buy that happens pretty regularly here too for the best price.

I've thought about running a 31 they are on the line on TOO big.. i think they all over 60+ lbs.

where as a 34 is around 40lbs. 20 isn't a ton of weight.. but i do plan on running two down the road. so i don't just want the biggest bat

I think factory wiring is around 2AWG, if you don't need more for any electrical reason, there isn't much benefit to up sizing.

If you intend on other electrical upgrades or want to reduce voltage drop under heavy loads then up sizing the cable would obviously help.

+1 on the Big 3 upgrade

+1 on buying a battery with the correct terminal orientation.

Personally I go out of the way to make sure the positive terminal is facing away from body panels (fenders and bumper) so in the event of a collision you have a reduced risk of direct shorts which could cause a fire in an accident.

Great point. I'll look that's kind of a good point.

IF i were to continue do you know how much length would be needed to run the battery leads? i'd image 10 feet has to be enough.

Also if you're doing the big 3 do you use 0 gauge for that or continue the 2 gauge across the everything.
