This looks like they are trying to compete with the Duratrac a little more. Looks pretty good to me.

All about personal needs my friend. BFGs are what I like cause for what I do they'll work just fine. Long miles, semi quiet, capable when needed, and looks are why I like them.

Well for the terrain in my neck of the "woods" I'm thinking this would not really work to well for me considering the mud is like glue at times. Good looking tire but I can see how out in Ocotillo Wells (So-Cal) this tire would rip it up.

It's def a good looking tire. They live up to their rep. The original AT's had one of the longest production runs for a tire but technology has to replace it at some point.

Honestly I don't think they need to compete with Duratracs. It is interesting to see them change the desgin of something that has worked so well for so many years. I wonder if they will keep the originals around?

Not all of them. Certain sizes/load ranges don't have it. For example, the 285/70/17 E load has the mountain snowflake rating but the same size tire in a D load does not. Makes no sense.

There was a discussion about this exact topic on another forum- this was BFG's response as to why some TA KO's have the snowflake symbol and some do not...


"Some sizes of the All-Terrain T/A KO were developed for original equipment applications. Vehicle manufacturer's sometimes request minor changes to the tires so they will marry well with their vehicle's suspension. The changes may be in the form of a different tread rubber compound or a different tread depth, etc. Unfortunately, these changes affect the tire's winter capability and do not meet the RMA's (Rubber Manufacturer's Association) requirements for severe snow conditions.

These sizes are often kept in the replacement market even though they may no longer be supplied as original equipment."

Sure hope not, I think a lot of people would be seriously pissed, hence the old coke/new coke analogy. It is a great all-around predictable tire IMO

A lot of guys I run with were pissed when the BFG MTs went away too. The KM2s just don't give the same tried and true feeling.

This is my 4th set of BFG T/A KO's and they wear like iron, handle glaze ice and snow and walk up rocks in CO with ease. I can't say enough good about them. If they have any downside, they can hold onto smaller rocks at times. In my style of wheeling, I have no need for MT's and I can get almost 90,000 miles out of a set of the AT's at 45 PSI.

These new ones look like MT's from the side and AT's in the center. Perhaps a hybrid AT/MT concept? Less siping will hurt the ice performance.

A long, looooong era, and that's a great question John. For reference the original BFG KM went away with the exception of the one size they still make for OEM Jeep Wrangers. That was too bad since I still like that tire better than the replacement KM2 that looks like a rock climbing tire more than an MT.
