New black rims

Thanks to this thread, I went on a quest to get a good deal on the same rims.

Located the same rims used with two week old Nitto Terragrapler tires (265/70-17) two hours from me. Will pick them up Saturday.

Found a good powdercoating shop close by for the black powdercoating. Called many places in the LA, could not get anywhere close to the same deal GYoter got in Sacramento.

So hopefully by the end of next week, I will have pictures of the black wheels on a black 4Runner.

Thanks to T4R.ORG for helping to lighten my wallet.

How did you guys deal with the TPMS ? Did it come on the wheels you bought ? Were they affected by the powdercoating ?

I'll let you know, but everything I have read leads me to believe that I should be able to move them over to the new wheels.

I didnt deal with it. I just left the sensors on my old rims and found a way to block the light that comes on with the new ones. As far as mounting them, powdercoat shouldnt cause a problem.

Yes...you are the bad influence at this point! I figure with the labor to unmount tires, moving the TPM's, remounting and balancing, I will be in the $1200 ballpark.

don't worry.. i'm sure you'll inspire him later down the road into spending more then $1200.. then you can call it even.

I see it like this: someone over at yotatech inspired me to do it originally, so they are actually the bad influence, i will go ahead and defer all blame to them for the cost but take credit for the idea.

Plus you got some new tires out of it so 1200 for new rims and good tires is actually pretty good.

Also, in my GYoter inspired quest, I came across "black" chrome, but have not found a good picture of it.

Maybe I should have been more clear to help you spend more money.

You can take practically any rim you want....like your current 5 spokers, and get them powder coated. Where I am taking the Tundra rims I bought, I drop them off on Monday, should have them back on Wednesday.....sandblasted and powder coated.

Got the rims back this morning, and had the tires mounted.

I want to repaint the center caps, and need to paint the valvestem caps.

I think the Nitto Terragrapplers (265/70-17) really help out too. They seem to ride pretty nicely as well.

Curtis what shop did you take it to and how much was it.

I was refered to American Powder Coating in Downey by another shop that is closer to me. They do chroming and powder coating for some big companies such as Edelbrock and American Racing. Call and ask for Gadio.

In the OC, I was told that Orange County Powder Coat is good too.

It cost me a total of $300.

curtis, are those Sequoia 17" rims the same size as 4Runner 17"? I'm talking about rims specification like offset, central hole diameter, wheel nuts holes diameter and others.
