New Bumper maybe. Ideas??

Hey, ok so if you havnt seen my recent post, i got in a lil fender bender, more like bumper bender, but ok so i might get a new brushguard to replace the one i have now, i want a tube bumper like i got now, but i kinda want a plated one to with the hoop. But those weigh ALOT, so i need some help finding a good brushguard! Ive looked at the Addicted Offroad stinger bumper, but thats all i saw that i liked! So again please give me some insight on yalls knowledge. (and preferably not get destroy in a lil wreck to)

I know I'm the minority on this thought but...

The type of tube bumper you had is designed to do what it did in a impact. bend but not totally destroy the front end. They're designed for baja prerunners/ trophy trucks that nose dive while desert racing and nerfing each other to tell each other "please move over" lol. If you put a plated bumper like everyone on this site seems to prefer, you're more likely to bend your frame and do even more damage to your runner. Just sayin'.

if I had to do it all over again I would go with the trail gear tacoma tube bumper, or the addicted bumper. I HATE MY ARB. its the heaviest POS, It has horrible clearance, and i have been thinking about hacking it up, but even that is a challenge because it is so oddly engineered.

I agree. Not a fan of ARB just too heavy and bulky looking for me. I like tube/plate blend. Dont get me wrong if someone sold me one really cheap I'd probably bite since I do like it better than the stock bumper I have now.

I like my CBI front, (and rear now) and yes the plate bumper are heavyer.

it all comes to YOUR preferance. I like plate to cover the stuff undernieth, and protections from bugs, dirt and such. or it just hides it better where the tube bumpers would show the stuff under the bumper. and if you cant' spray it out then might be harder to clean.

I would get a bumper of either style before a brush guard though.

I like the ARB but I feel the same. I've been hating it's clearance and weight for a while now. Maybe after a while if I don't decide to ditch it for something else I'll mod it to my likings. It does its job for now though. If I put my stock front bumper through the trails I've done it would be ripped off by now, just sayin.

Really? I LOVE MY ARB! I just got it and it is awesome. I felt the weight before it was welded on and it only weighs about 80 lbs. How much should a steel bumper weigh?

I dont think clearance will be an issue for me. I am not going to attempt anything where the ARBs clearance will be an issue. + the clearance is great coming from stock and it looks great.

I'm loving my Addicted bumper. I picked it up from Scotty in person but I guess if you're in Atlanta that's not really an option for you!

OTOH, you don't have to pay sales tax like I did so maybe it breaks even!

One thing to remember about Addicted, he ships them unpainted. Not a biggie, I painted mine in the course of an afternoon in my garage and it looks great. Cleaned it off with brake cleaner and then primed, then painted with Hammerite rattle-canned on. My total cost for brake cleaner + primer + paint was maybe $25.

Considering that the TrailGear bumpers are mass produced whereas the AOR bumpers are tailor-made to your specs, I'd say the AOR is the better deal, especially since the cost is roughly the same.

Just FYI, the AOR is about the same cost.

The Savage looks less expensive ($344), but note that the following are options on the Savage:

- Grille Guard (AOR calls it a "stinger.): $45 option/included on AOR.
- Shackle mounts: $40/included on AOR
- Tubing material: $75 for DOM/included on AOR (Note: I don't know the difference between DOM and HREW but AFAIK, AOR's bumpers are DOM)
- Winch plate: $30/included on AOR.

By the time you add all the "options" onto the Savage bumper it comes out to $504 and AOR's is $499 for the basic bumper. Both of them will charge you to add light tabs or LED tabs.

Not knocking the Savage bumper, just saying make sure you know what you're getting. :

And AFAIK all the stuff that AOR builds uses DOM. I can tell you there are no seams anywhere on my bumper, and I would think I'd have seen them when the bumper was "in the white."

My rear bumper weighs 50lbs max. The ARB's are cool for expedition stuff, but as far as rock crawling, they suck. Mine has rock rash all over it, plus the 90º bend at the bottom just digs into the rocks. Its hard to slide it over stuff. Just not my style. the savage bumper seems good enough for the money. And as far as HREW vs DOM it really depends on the quality/carbon content of the steel... Im sure that should be saved for another day LOL
