New Camera Suggestions

WOW CNI those pics are amazing! The clarity is rediculous, looks better then real life, haha. Since I started my job (travel a lot) a little over a year ago I've really gotten into taking pictures, mostly of nature. I'll take pictures of anything, usually a few times each to get it right.

One thing that drives me crazy about my Cannon A80 is whenever I zoom in all the way it seems almost impossible to take a picture that's not blurry. Even if I hold my breath and I feel completely still, it doesn't come out right.

Also, I learned more about setting the shutter speed on my camera for night pics without flash. I've taken some pretty cool pics, but again it has to be sitting flat against something or they come out with trails.

Thanks Solice!! I take great pride in what I do!

Sounds like your learning from mistakes. Keep it up and shoot lots of pics. That's the best way to learn! :D

I previously had the casio exiim ex-s3... the camera that is literally the size of a credit card and about .3inches thick. the thing was tiny and very portable, but the images were soso even at 3.2MP. i did love the camera, but it was time to get something with more features so i sold it (for 1/2 the cost i bought it for after 3yrs!) and did much research before buying a panasonic lumix dmc fx-01 last may. although there are a lot of noise on night shots, all the other pics come out awesome. the main reason i bought it was for the size/features:

- smallest camera with wide lens... this has def helped numerous times when trying to take big group shots in certain rooms.

- optical image stability

- can record video in 16:9 up to 2gbs worth(30min) my friends were amazed at the quality of the video.

- long lasting battery

- large lcd screen on back

and a bunch more. you can read the review at www.dpreview.com

i know they came out with an updated version with high MP and a diff sensor that may fix the noise issues.

Ok, CNI, Now I have narrowed it down to the SD630, SD 750, and the SD1000. What do you think?

V8Limited, how thick is that and what did you buy it for?

camera dimensions are 3.7 x 2 x 0.9 in

you can read the review here:

i bought it for around $300, you can get it for around $200 now if you look around. i usually find the best prices at www.dealmac.com

the model that replaced the fx01 is the fx30

i think in the end you have to decide how much you're willing to spend and what features you want. i knew that i would encounter some noise with the lumix, but the extra features and the lower price did it for me when i compared it to the canon 700is (which was sorta similar in features, but bigger in size) at the time.

SD1000 in my opinion. :D

The Powershot SD1000 got some excellent reviews. Looks to be a great camera and Amazon is listing it at $299 but onsale for $258 right now. Hmm, you guys may have swayed me into getting a new camera when I wasn't really planning on getting one just yet.

Man, you gotta love this forum! :D

its actually more around $8k....but you have to buy a decent lens and flash for it right? Right! :D

My family and I are all loyal Canon users! My current camera is a 30D, which is not very compact. If I was buying a new compact camera, it would be either a SD750 or SD1000.

So I am set. The SD1000 it is. YAY!! Just need the money...lol. Well how much do you think I can sell the A610 for? bought it year ago, for $280, planning on selling it for $200, with a 256 MB SD card, software, and cables. Holy balls!! I still have the box! Well thats even better! But I have time. Now this has me thinkin, I COULD by an even more expensive camera, say 450, and only pay 250, because I sold my old one, hmmmm.... decisions, decisions....

ALL I know is if it's old technology...nobody wants it. Just like computers, cell phones, game systems, etc, etc, etc. I even have my old 4x5 view camera. I knew I'd never get my money back out of it so I just held onto it. :(

Ok guys finally the funds have come together (well almost). So now here are the cameras I'm debating between:

Canon SD1000
Canon SD850IS
Canon SD750
Canon SD100

ALL comments are appreciated. TIA.

I purchased my SD750 around two weeks ago. I wanted something that was small and easy to carry in my pocket. I took this camera on vacation with me to Las Vegas and San Diego and I was extremely impressed with it. This camera does not have optical image stabilization, but I did not miss it at all. The screen was easy to see even in the strong Las Vegas sun. I was very impressed with the image quality! Night time photos are decent and the flash is acceptable for a camera of that size. I definitely recommend this camera 100%. If you would like to see some pictures from it, let me know.

lol. thanks for the input Mark. Well guess what I just bought 2 days ago? an Canon SD750!! lol. Yea It's so small!! I LOVE it!! I took it to summerfest and my friends were very impressed.
