New Car

Well as you all already know, my 4Runner was totaled out and I had the chance to get a new vehicle. While everyone, including I, thought I was going to get a new 04 or 05 4Runner, things turned out a little differently.

I instead found myself driving home from the Audi Dealership in a brand new 05 A4 5 speed Turbo. :zoom:

That being said, I will have to resign my status as a T4R owner (not for too long though, you better believe there will be another in my garage one day...). I've got a few things I'm going to sell that were on my truck, although my headlights are not. They had to take the truck away with headlights intact, and I didn't have ones to replace mine with. I was quite unhappy about this, to say the least. I do have my Black Magics and a few of my stereo install parts to sell off however, so look for them in the classifieds.

I'll still be around, but not as much. I'll miss the off-roading but I'll do it again soon.

Anyway it was great to be a part of this awesome community, you guys have been wonderful. Always a big help whenever I needed it, and I like to think that I was able to help a few of you out as well.

Well, I'm happy for you and all, but you'll sure be missed. You should keep your eye out for a steal of a deal on a used runner.......so you can come back here and innovate again. Bummer on loosing the HIDs.....I bet there would have been some extremely happy people on here to acquire those.

Congrats on the new purchase. I don't mean to be pesamistic or anything, but based on extensive experience with VW/Audi models, unless you get lucky in terms of reliability/durability, you'll be back to Toyota pretty soon.

My buddy had an A4 turbo, but it was an auto, not a manual. It wasn't as fast as I thought it would be for a 'turbo' model, but it was still plenty faster than the VW Passat it shares its platform with.

We used to rag on it and then pop the hood at night and you could see the turbo glowing orange and putting off about as much heat as the surface of the sun.

Make sure that if you drive it hard, you let it cool down afterward by letting it idle in your driveway or whatever for 5-6 minutes before actually shutting it down. Or better yet, get a turbo timer installed. Heck, while you're at it, get a boost controller so you can tweak the boost when you get a craving for speed.

Just went and checked out some info on the A4 since I haven't in a while. It said 170 hp and 164tq for the turbo 4-cyl motor. Weird... I always thought it was a little more.

Also noticed they're coming out with a refresh of the interior/exterior styling and a couple of other tweaks this fall, and then a complete redesign for 08.

Yeah the car is quite a bit quicker than you would think from reading the specs. I'm going to get a GIAC chip for it which pushes another 60hp and 100lb/ft through it via some extra boost. I always figured a turbo timer would never get along with all the computers and such in the car, fault codes a-plenty. Hopefully it will be at least a decently reliable car, I've got a few friends with VWs and they don't have too many problems with em... If I find a good deal on a used 4Runner (or even a taco) you better believe I'll be back!

too bad you didnt wait for the 05 a4, because it sure is sexy (to say the least) how come you didnt opt for the 3.0??? much more power and it is naturally aspirated, which means more room for power improvements...

i also looked at the 04 a4 turbo before i bought it, but i realized i wanted a truck and ill just buy my wife a a4 when i get married so i can have my truck and still a lil car to scoot around in...

but now with the recent addition of the chevelle resto id rather dump that money into a zz502 than buy the wife a hot ride... hehehe

Awesome new car, Congratulations! Before I bought my 4Runner, I was going to get a 2002 A4 1.8T that one of my mother's friend was selling. That didn't work out for me though...

I really like the new painted "cladding" on the new models, it helps the apperance a whole lot. So, what made you change your mind?

Anyway, I really hope you'll contribute around here, your posts were very informative.

That is one super sharp car. I also like it you got a stick, all of the other cars I have owned before the 4Runner were a stick. It oughta be a blast to drive.

Sorry to hear that you won't get another 4runner, but your new ride is beautiful.

Fair enough, the thread will probably be a few pages in and gone by a few days anyway though.

I looked at the 3.0 (I <3 N/A engines) but the price tag was a little too steep. I could get in the turbo for quite a bit cheaper, and it is actually a bit of a sportier car with much more room for mods. Anyway I'll be around here still helping out where I can. If anybody ever needs any VW/Audi (or BMW for that matter) advice then come find me. Just send me a PM or something and I'll make a return.

Just curious, did you drive the CVT transmission before you bought the stick? I have never driven a CVT transmission and I wondered what you thought of one.

And again, one sharp car..... I don't know why Thai thinks the Audi A4 is not part of the 4Runner discussion though.

I did actually, it was very nice. The CVT is a perfect transmission for a turbo motor, because when you hit the gas it can put the RPMs at the peak of the torque curve and avoid much of the dredded turbo lag. Only reason I didn't buy it is because it didn't have a clutch and 5 gears for me to play with :

Yeah I've seen a couple of articles where they said that most any CVT just flat-out cannot be beaten even by the best manual transmission driver on his best run. I even saw an article specifically with the A4 turbo and it was like a difference of .6-.8 seconds in the 1/4-mile between the CVT and an expertely driven manual. And to top it all off, the CVT even gets better gas milage!

I still think I'd get the manual though. I just love the feeling of being in direct control of the gearbox.

Hey, talk about coincidence. I traded in my 1999 Audi A6 for my 4Runner. You don't want to know what I thought about my Audi. I just want to give you two words of advice:

"Extended"

"Warranty"

Get it now if you didn't order it with the car. I think Audi gives you 90 days to buy it.

Well the warranty is good for 5 years, and I will probably sell the car just before the warranty runs out (and buy a 2010 4Runner of course). Anyway from what I can tell the current Audi's are built well, and they seem to use high quality materials. The CVT is nice, but one of the main reasons I wanted a car is for the 5 speed.
