well i found some tundra rims like yours on CL for $300 (no tires)
may i ask what size tires your riding on your 17",, also do you have a lift or you stock ride??

$300 isn't bad. I got mine for $200. :p

My tires are 265/70/17 Duratracs. I'm still stock. I want to lift, but it isn't practical.

Yeah, those are basically 28" tires. You should definitely be able to fit 32's on there. Also, before you swap rims, you might want to check tire prices for both sizes. I run 15" rims on my jeep and tires for it are MUCH cheaper than they are for my 4Runner....even though the jeep tires are quite a bit larger in OD.

It has nothing to do with which vehicle the tires are going on. It's all about the size of the rim. 15" tires are definitely cheaper than 16" tires.

Oh I agree. The vehicle doesn't matter....I didn't mean to imply that it did. For some reason 16's and up are quite a bit more expensive. I haven't checked for 17's, but I imagine that they would follow suit. If it were me, I'd stick with the 15's unless he was planning to step up the rotor size and needed the extra clearance.

Yeah, I didn't think you did, but just wanted to clarify. :)

Just looking at the Duratracs the price goes up $30 from 16" to 17". That's a pretty significant amount.

I wouldn't even want to think about having to pay for 20" tires.
 
The tire companies are ass-backwards and ripping us off if you think about it. A larger rim size means a larger hole, which means less rubber needed, but yet they charge $100-$150 more for a set of 4 tires going from 15" to 16" and so on. Absolute BS.

Yeah, I remember when those Dodge Rams came out with 20" rims....and about a year later I heard a lot of people *****ing about the cost of tires for those rims....I laughed inside.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the molding and how the sidewalls are created...not the actual amount of rubber used to make the tire. I've got a buddy who works for Interco....I should ask him if he knows.

One reason is most factory vehicles come with (or used to) 15" rims, they make more 15" tires so they are cheaper to produce.
