That is dual climate control. If the build sheet says you have dual climate control then it will look like that.
That interior picture is more likely a limited, could be an sr5? (don't know it they have a dual climate option), definitely not a trail or trdp as it doesn't have the 4wd transfer case shift lever.

Time, I can make time. Not an issue. In terms of money, are we talking Hundreds or Thousands?

You can do anything you want with enough time and money.
That said, I don't think it is as simple as just switching out the panel. More than likely there will be some missing wiring harnesses, as other 5th gen posters have figured out, it seems Toyota does indeed save money this way.
Also I suspect there are additional parts to the HVAC system you would have to buy but I cannot say for sure, you would have to dig into the repair manuals to note the differences.
Agreed. I would wait until you start seeing totaled 5th gen 4Runner Limiteds hit the junk yards then start to experiment at a fraction of the cost.
MSRP for that gauge cluster is just over $1000, online you could get it a little cheaper, $750?

No idea. You would be swapping out the entire HVAC system to make it dual climate, IF that's even possible. That's where the money thing comes into play. Do you want pretty, or do you want it to work? I'm sure it has more sensors than the stock HVAC so if everything isn't tied in and wired correctly, it will pop up with all kinds of errors. But you would have digital gauges lol.
I'd be totally fine with the dual zone not actually functioning. Still being a single zone, just having the prettier look than the ugly knob the single zones all come with. Perhaps in time i'll convert it to an actual dual zone set up, but in the short term i just want it to look a little cooler.

I drove some 2016's last week, both SR5 and Trails. None had the digital dual climate setup... The Limited versions on the lot all had that dash...
That explains it then. I must say...very shady of Toyota to show that image across all trim levels on marketing material. False advertising at its finest. :boom:

Id even be happy with a thermostat for auto temp control. The basics are all the same. They use the same ac parts. Same fan. Etc. Is likely the ducting and one or more air flow valves. Probably not worth the effort. Heated seats are a pretty easy way to make two people comfortable in a wide range of conditions.
