New Hella Driving Lighs Installed

Here are pics of my new driving lights. I was going to do the floating mod on the lower grille but I wanted the driving light on bumper look instead. Usually driving lights are mounted on metal safari/bull bars, but the Toyota bar is plastic so I made my own mounts. Its like a bar/bumper mount. The lights are Hella Black Magics because I thought it would look good with the blacked out look. It came with a wiring kit which made it "hella" easy to install

Did you pop-rivet them to your bumper cover???

I used 3/16" toggle bolts to secure it to the bumper. I felt queezy drilling to the bumper but it was the only way to secure it.

I got them from 4wheelparts store in San Jose. They were priced at $210 but I said online I saw them for $189. The store them sold them to me for $190 plus tax

any light shimmers over bigger bumps??

Just a little over bumps on the freeway but it only lasts for an extremely split second. Other than that its pretty solid.

It shimmered a lot when I didn't have the bracket mounted to the bumper.

Looking good man. I wanted a set of those lights for my truck but they wouldn't fit within my Safari Grill. Call me jealous

I'm trying to figure out the best way to point these things. Any suggestions? For those with driving lights, do you use them as regular driving lights or as high beams?

i angled mine to the sides for a wider view. i installed them mainly because of deer and other animals around here.. so mine are pointed a little to the edges of the road but still somewhat straight.

Look AWESOME. Whats the depth on them, the profile shot makes them look really thin. As far as aiming goes the lights may have come with a guide on how to set them. I have found that going to a place where there are big parking lots like grocery stores or home improvement stores and aiming your lights on a level surface 25' away from a brick wall and adjusting them compared to where your regular lights are. It really just depends on where you want them pointed. And coming from an engineer those mounts look super sharp!!!

Hey thanx. The lights are around 3.5" thick. If I mounted them directly to the bumper, the backs would get in the way of the hood when opened. So made these mounts Its just an L bracket from Home Depot. Its really strong metal, I had to bend it with a vise to fit the angles of the bumper and bar. I then drilled out the wholes for the bolts.

I have my lights aimed dead straight just a bit above the headlilght cut off. I tested it out last night. Pretty good for high beams

Truck looks great but I would not have drilled into the bumper cover.

i think the lights look great. you should black out the front bar, top rails, any logos, lettering for total black out and change your license plate to batman or knightrider. didn't i see on a previous thread you were a big fan of knightrider?

That looks really good. I will probably switch up and get the Black Magics eventually. I just got the 500's when I was making my brackets because they were relatively cheap and wanted to make sure they would work first. I replaced the stock H3 bulbs with the Silverstar H3 bulbs to mathc the rest of my lights. I have mine turned slightly out. Surprisingly, the stock high beams are a little brighter than the Hella's, but it helps having more light on some of these back roads.

I found the Hella Black Magic's to be very bright. The pattern is different though. The Black Magic's pattern is more narrow. They light the road further while the high beams light the outer environment.

I have got to say your truck looks outstanding! Since you have gone with the smoked look have you considered the black pearl emblems?

Now you just need a supercharger...
