New engine? Factory parts? Warranty? Has anyone seen this?

In my search for parts and things. As we know the 5VZ does sometimes eventually just go out. Lots have looked for replacement motors, jdm, etc. I was just wondering has anyone seen, or heard of this company. I mean it looks pretty legit, but it does cost a little bit. However you can even get it with new heads. Thoughts?

I've been searching remanufactured engines and some horror stories about this outfit on this forum, that said there seems to horror stories about EVERY engine builder. now I get all you hear is the bad never the good on the internet....im going with a used motor, probably get screwed on this deal too, they're all a crapshoot!

That's $1400 more than my JDM. I know it's a rebuild, I bet the parts won't be oem.... I've heard of horror stories from guys that went with a rebuild, JDM and domestic wreckers. I've also heard of guys that had no issues, such as myself, and I went JDM. If I would have had a problem, it would have been a total disaster, as I'm located in a small town and I'm out West. There are few JDM suppliers here. Out East, there are a ton of JDM suppliers. I bought online, they did supply data, so for me, it worked out. If you can't go to the yard and inspect the engine, then go with someone that will provide data- ie compression. And if you're going through ebay, someone with high rep. It's never a guaranteed thing. When I did my replacement, I was in touch with 2 others, one used a JDM and the other got his from a writeoff/donor vehicle. All of us were successful and Happy. I've put 30k km since. Last year I came across someone who bought a JDM and had a nightmare. He eventually discovered mud in the cylinders!! Again, it's never a sure thing but do your research, check out the seller, and ask for data. If they're evasive, find someone else. Luckily there are lots of these engines out there. Good luck!

OH BOY DO I HAVE A HORROR STORY FOR YOU!

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/211623-oil-intake-intake-pipe.html

Read that if you want to cry in rage.

Anyway, I've been told by both dealerships and Toyota specific shops that you can't just get a remanufactured or rebuilt engine and have it be as good as the original spec. The place here, that I got my low milage engine from, managed to find me one with 72K on it. bolt right in. a 2004 3.4L. Now, Both dealership and shop told me the best bet is to find a low(er) mileage engine, because that is 1: what they do themselves and 2: you cannot "Rebuild" a 3.4 because there are no direct from toyota rebuild kits. The Toyota place here will actually NOT rebuild your 3.4 as company policy. They find a used one and do a "Soft" rebuild (gaskets, timing, pressure test and inspection, etc.) and make sure its sound. So far, mine has been great.

JDM engines, when I asked the shop and the dealership as well, they said its is a gamble. Some legit have 40-50K. Some have 200K. there is NO way to ensure that maintenance and oil changes have been done regularly, and some have been seen that have had no oil changes in 60K because if you are going to yank it, why keep it nice? JDM is a dice roll for sure.

For what it's worth on JDM 5VZ's, I occasionally browse the Japanese USS Tokyo auction site, most of the 3.4 powered trucks going across are 200k+ km. Very rarely do you see them around the 50-60k most people believe. It seems to me like the Japanese are getting their miles out of 90s Toyotas too.

As far as remanufactured goes, I'd much rather have my engine gone through and know exactly what went into it than buying an off the shelf rebuild.

I don't know if I would trust a JDM engine right now, well maybe they are done selling their tsunami flooded stuff. If it was me,
my thinking would be find a local used low miles, compression check and leak down, reseal it, new belts, h20 etc ( like someone parting one out that is totaled from like a wreck or tree falling on it.

or my preference if money is not so much an issue, take mine out and have it rebuilt by a reputable shop or do it your self with the reputable shop doing the machine work.
Ive done this many times over the years, of course a lot of American big blocks, but BMW's, Volvo's ,MB's and old Toyota 4 cylinders as well.
plus it gives me an excuse for more tools to buy :)

Well, hold on-
Just because the vehicle has 200km on it doesn't mean the engine does, right? I am under the impression it's government mandated to replace the engine after x km. This doesn't mean the ODO goes back to 0...

A few months ago I noticed LC Engineering is selling a 3.4.
Maybe it's old news.

For shits and gigs, I just called the local JDM engine shop. It's owned and ran by a Japanese couple. I've been to the shop before, and seen all the 3.4's with my own eyes, and they appear as if they're low mile engines. Not super cleaned up looking, yet no oil seepage around the valve covers etc.
The gentleman on the phone said they're all "31, 37, 34k mile motors" and "unda fowty tousand-dey come fwom Japan!" Lol
He sells them complete with starter, alt, AC comp, manifolds- complete TB-to-pan for $1,100. Even comes with all the connectors- harness is chopped right at the firewall.

This article starts to go into it, and that was true in the 70s and 80s because the test was so hard to pass for older carned and early efi systems, but the quality of the 90s Toyotas makes it easier. Most engines are pulled from wrecks or rustbuckets just like used motors here. If you were swapping a motor into your truck you wouldn't be chopping the harnesses out and starting over right? I'm sure there are more extremely low mileage engines in Japan than here, but I highly doubt that every single one can't pass shaken at 40k.

UnderFire,
You know, I did think that was pretty strange to cut the harness like that.
Hm, interesting.
The lack of dirt/oil on the engines is still something that stands out to me. That said, I've cleaned up some SUPER dirty engine bays that came out looking new...
