New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

What kind of mileage and tread depth is everyone at now? I'm about to roll over 5,000 on my P285s and measure around ~11.5-12/32" avg depth. As others have noted, while these are listed at 14/32 new, I believe they are actually more like 13/32. I know mine were. This would help explain some of the increased wear reports, at least those directly comparing tread wear from "new." While I don't expect to get the wear I did on my AT IIs (55k w/ 5/32" left), its a small price to pay for this newer tread compound given the quietness and grip. So far, I have no regrets. I'll have even less once I get my Tread Lightly rebate. :clock:

That's pretty much identical wear to my P265/70s before I sold them with 6-7k on them

My LRE275/65/18s also have a pretty deep tread. I haven't actually measured but it's much deeper than my wife's KO2s were. I got then rebalanced so no more stick weights outside the rim. I really like the tires. They're quiet and in the rain so far have been great. I also don't feel as though the load rating is harshing my ride. First full tank of gas in my 4th gen I got 18.66 mpgs, adjusted for tire size increase.

I have close to 10000 miles on these tires so far but on 2 different sets. My first set had a shake at 60 MPH and the dealer could not get it to go away. I talked Falken into replacing all 4 tires and surprise, no shake. Still performing great on and off the highway. I normally do about 80% highway driving on a regular basis.

I have had a chance to drive these in 3 different snow situations and I have to say I am impressed. I grew up in the White mountains of NH and every winter I usually switch over to snow tires, but this time I wanted a decent tire for all year round conditions. I have to say I think I found the right tire. The traction is not better then a snow tire but it is pretty close. It is a lot better then an all season. Last night I drove home in somewhat of a Blizzard, but with heavy wet snow that caked over my entire vehicle. Windshield wipers were on High and I could not keep the windshield clean, and the head light lenses were completely covered. Cars were pulled off the side of the highway with hazard lights on. I drove at an average of 30-40MPH and these tires had very little slippage. In my experience heavy wet snow is the worst to drive in because the snow just fills the tread. The only slippage i had was making a 90 degree turn and I kept going straight, but a little throttle straightened me right out. Where these tires really shine are in the deep snow. I drove across my brothers Lawn with about a foot and a half of hard and soft snow. I started in 2wd and made it about half way then switched it into 4wd and I felt like a tank. I tried to get stuck but it wasn't going to happen. If you are looking for a set of good, all around tires these are it!

Man, I just got to say that I love these tires. I ran errands all day in my wife's T4R with GY Duratracs and I can't believe the difference between the two tires. I'm actually impressed with the handling enough to order her a set to replace the 1-year old Duratracs. The Falken has much less slippage and is a bit more predictable.

Glad to see this comparison. My neighbor swears by Duratracs, and I'd thought about going with them but couldn't pass up the Falkens at their price. Looks like I made the right choice. I just finished a 2k mile road trip with them and other than shitty gas mileage, no complaints whatsoever. With around 5k on the tires, time to rotate for the first time, but so far no obvious wear issues.

Don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but I just talked to a Falken Rep and was told that they will be releasing the A/T3W in 275 70 17 sometime late 17/early 18.

Sweet! When I talked to one of their reps a few months ago, I made sure to say they should release that size. He'd indicated it wasn't the first time he'd heard that. I will say my LT265/70/17 do rub a bit on the plastic mudflap/liner.

How do your tires rub when they are stock size? I know your sig says you have TRDP wheels which aren't stock, but it shouldn't cause it to rub... right? Wally World has the 265/70/17 for $133 with free shipping. You could take it anywhere to get mounted though Walmart will do it for $9 a tire without messing with TPMS...

They rub because the LT tire is much closer to a 32" tire than the stock tire, which is 31.6". Under braking and near full lock, mostly in reverse, it will slightly rub one part of the mud flap / rear of the fender liner on the front wheels. I still need to borrow someone's heat gun, but it feels like there's enough room back there than I can just reform it and eliminate the rub. It'll probably go away once I lift too.

Good to hear as I'm also looking at the P rated tire in stock size. I'm pretty sure I have a buyer for my stock takeoffs so I may be pulling the trigger today and I have it narrowed down to Cooper AT3 and the Falken AT3W.

Many people on this thread are in the 5k-10k mileage range. Anyone with feedback once you get to 20k-30k? Wear? Noise increase? Just curious since I was researching Hankook Dynapro and most were raving for the first 10k then hated them after 20k... Coopers have good comments through the life of the tire. Thanks.

Gotta say I've been loving these in snow, both in on-road and off-road performance. Did some off-roading on Yankee Hill a week ago with some pretty deep snow sections, 8+ inches and the tires performed very well.

Just checked the chart and saw for the 265/70 R17's the LT is six pounds heavier, with very little other difference.

Interested in thoughts on this and whether the LT is worth the extra weight and cost, and the need. Would towing being the only criterion favoring the LT?

Had mine out in the snow for the first time yesterday, tires did real well. Still have a hard time balancing them, but I'm okay with that for now. It's not terrible.

LT has deeper treads and more durable sidewalls which can better off-road reliability/puncture resistance.

Thanks for the compliment! They are P285/70R17. I've had no issues with them whatsoever. I have a set of BFG KO2 on my Montero and had to take them back to get balanced. These have been amazing. Took them up snow over the xmas break and they performed very well. They did rub pretty badly but once I did the fender mod that took care of the problem.

Thanks for the quick feedback! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the P265/70-R17s and ordered them. I'm stock now and want to do a leveling lift this spring so it needs to se good so 285s wouldn't work. I would have considered 275s if they were available in this tire or another tire that's P rated. I was also looking at Cooper At3s but ended up liking the look of the Falkens better.

What lift do you have?
