New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

I've seen the same for long steady freeway runs. It seems that city driving is where we take the hit on MPG with all terrain tires

Oddly it seems opposite for me. I actually gained MPG in the city from my bridgestone duelers to falken wildpeaks and lost about 1 mpg on the highway. It seemed to roll a lot easier from stops in the city and would coast for a longer time.

Decided to upsize my 275 K02’s to 285 Wildpeaks (LT285/70/17). I was able to drive it on the highway for 120 miles and was glad that I didn’t get any shimmy. Now I need to get another lift [emoji4]

Got mine mounted! Killer deal from Simpletire on 265/70/17s. They rub at stock height in reverse on fullish turn but I don't even care, i'll deal with the wheel liners later. I think 3 people have already complimented them including the guy that mounted them, with something along the lines of "but just wait until you get on the highway those have to be loud" ..to which I can happily reply NOT AT ALL..I didn't even think you could get a true peak-rated AT tire that was this quiet!
Love these tires, definitely took a knock on gas mileage as most my driving is in traffic about 15 miles in the morning but not a big deal..now I just need a lift and wheels for my next set of 285 18s!

This is why I scratch my head with these tires.

LT275/70R17 C load 57.1 lbs
LT285/70R17 E load 58.9 lbs

Only 1.8 lbs less for a smaller tire and 6 ply rather than 10 ply??? Doesn't make sense.

I would love a Falken C load 285 if it weighed the same as the 285 C load K02. K02 C load is 51 lbs. Did Falken screw up the weight on their own website? Probably moot point anyway since they don't make a C load in 285.

And one other thing odd and this is from BFG:

I would compare tread patterns and initial rolling resistance.

I don't understand how the tires allow you to coast longer yet give you less freeway MPGs.

What lift/suspension are you running if you don't mind me asking? I really like the fit on your ride with the 285s and the TRDs

I currently have the 5100’s all around....1.75 front and 1” cornfed spacers on the rear. Just waiting for the Dobinsons 59-302 and 59-599 to get a 2.5/1.5 lift.

I recently swapped out my 295 Ridge Grapplers for the AT3W in 285. Nice tire, great in all weather so far, just with they came in a 295. I don't think i'll keep these very long due to this.

Just ordered a set of p-rated 285s.
Can’t wait to get off these 265LTs. Way too harsh.

I bought the Falken tires after reading this thread about 7K miles ago. I was dead set on KO2's until reading everything here. I'm easy on the off roading, I mainly just go out to easy trails but I wanted a tire that was great all around and these have been. The best test was this last week where I took a 1,500 mile road trip from Arizona to New Mexico and all around Colorado and these tires did amazing.

I got caught in a snowstorm two of the days. One of them was traveling to Breckenridge and everyone else was slipping around getting up the mountain and I was fine even in 2 wheel drive. I didn't slip once the whole day.

I couldn't be happier with these tires. Thanks to everyone whos given input on them.

P265/70/17 Got mine a week a go. So far so good, in heavy rain and in the snow. They look great too!

Ridge Grapplers are pretty bad in the rain. I really only use my 4Runner for road trips with my family and I was very uncomfortable traveling with them all with me. If I had to come to a hard stop or swerve on wet ground, no way I would have been able to keep it under control. Just normal town driving in the rain was slippery. They did get better as the broke in but not good enough to keep them.

I just had my first experience with the AT3W’s in the rain. Two days worth of solid rain going back and forth from Santa Cruz to San Francisco on the 1. They felt great on on the twists and curves. Never once felt uneasy about being able to stop or handling a corner. When these wear out I’m going to go up a size or two.
