New Generation Improvements

Just curious about what improvements people would like to see on the next gen runners. I know for me top on the list has to be the infotainment screen. Decent system overall, but I personally think the screen needs to be improved. Better "touch-ability" and bigger screen (the size of the screen in the lexus rx360 is a good size) could both help. I'm an audiophile so I'd like a premium sound system, but I understand this isn't a Lexus. I'd like to see a limited trim that has a bit better, more sleek design. I like the limited now and think it gets a little too much hate, but I understand the dislike of the design (the chrome bar wasn't the greatest idea ever). What do you guys want to see in the new 4runners?

Front locker option would be cool for TRD pro. Sway bar disconnects.. Diesel option... You know.

Yeah, it'd be cool if they made the TRD Pro a hardcore offroad truck. Not saying it's not capable now, but it'd be sweet to see what they could come up with for a factory-designed almost after-market type mod for the 4runner.

Yeah. Just something to really spice it up. Or even just take 400 pounds off the sucker. That'd be nice (but with today's tech in vehicles idk where they'd even lose 400 pounds and get people to buy it)

What would also be cool is if it had a flat roof rack already so everyone would quit having to spend $1,000 on those suckers.

Yep. If they're going to make the TRD Pro, they might as well do what a good majority of people would do anyways.

When I said diesel i thought it was implied as a turbo diesel ;) so we're on the same wave length there

Putting manual transfer case levers in every model and not just the Trail and TRDP. These electronic knobs and their seizing problems are annoying and unnecessary. One would think a manual lever would be cheaper to produce too.

  • ~300+ horsepower
  • 8 Speed Automatic
  • 8"+ Media screen
  • Some amount of weight loss, even if 200lbs
  • Newer technology, like Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, etc.
  • More comfortable front seats
  • Smaller wheels for the Limited
  • JBL sound offered on SR5 Premium and Trail Premium
  • LED exterior lighting

I'd like trim specific features to be available as options across all models. Like a TRD Pro with a sunroof and third row seats or a TEP with push button start and cooled seats or a Limited with a rear locker and crawl control. If they can be installed in one, why not all?

Toyota will never put a factory front locker on an IFS. Way too much stress on the CV joints. Yes, it can be done, but Toyota won't do it. A rear locker with A-TRAC is about the best we'll get.

Sway bar disconnects: Toyota went a different direction with their KDSS system, so they'll never do a factory disco setup like what Jeep has. Your best bet would be allowing the KDSS system on more trim versions. Optimally what would work would be a setup such that you can install easy aftermarket discos without tearing your CV boots.

Diesel: Never happen in North America. Toyota has officially stated that passenger-car small diesel is just to expensive with our emissions. We used to be able to point to Volkswagen and scream "They can do it, why can't you??!!??"... but you know how that worked out.

Get rid of the nanny settings on the audio/nav system. So annoying that my passenger can't even use the system when the car is in motion.

Put decent stock skid plates on the TEP or get rid of them altogether -- don't supply garbage to the consumer only to have it shredded when revealed as just that when in the real world

Oh, and another thing...

Why did my 2008 Prius, nearly stock, have keyless entry and remote start, but my 2016 TEP still needs a key? This technology can obviously be put in the 4Runner as it is an available option on the limited.
