New Gunmetal Powdercoat Sport Edition Wheels

I've seen people ask about this is the past so I'm posting some pics.

I bought Autbond's stock sport wheels and had them powdercoated Gun Metal. The actual color of the powder is called "Iron Gunmetal Glimmer" and it came out a little darker than I wanted but I'm pleased overall. The pics are from an iPhone 4 so they're not great and make the wheels look a little darker. I will post some good DSLR shots in my build thread when I get the centercaps on and find a good photo-op spot.

The center caps got ruined because the powdercoater tested 1 & it worked great so he powdered & baked the other 3 but those 3 melted So we took the aluminum covers off and coated those & now I'm waiting on the new centers to get here so I can paint them black & exchange the aluminum covers for these PCed covers & black (or maybe red?) toyota emblems (unless anyone has better suggestions than black).

center caps:

basically where the plastic piece is gunmetal (the half-circles) is what will be black, hopefully it won't be too much black and look bad.

edit: just added a poll, what color should I paint the toyota emblems?

LOVE the powder-coated wheels!!! That's awesome looking! I'd go with red on the center cap... you need an "accent" down there and I think it'd be perfect. I'd say white, but that's a little too much I think.

Thanks! I like the red too because of I have the red on the piaa lights and the bike mounts but no red anywhere on the sides or low. I'm just not sure if it'll be too much.

I've been wanting to powder coat mine but haven't found the right shop to do it.

Yes, I do have red calipers, thats another reason I'm debating the red emblems

It ended up being $350, $50 to sandblast and $100 for each coat. Another place I spoke with wanted $440. You can prolly get it done cheaper in CA, there are a lot more places to choose from. There are only a few places in AL that powdercoat.

Yup, the racks were the first red thing on there and that's why I painted the PIAA emblems, wheel forks, & calipers red. Yes they are RockyMounts Pitchforks, I love them, they're very easy to use (which is nice when you're holding 25+ lbs above your head after biking 20 mi).

Yes I did, I bought one of the duplicolor spray kits from advance auto parts. They have brush on kits that don't require removing the caliper as well but I thought it would look better sprayed. Make sure you clean the calipers well first no matter which method you use.

It's hard to see the rears with the SR5/Limited wheels though, you can look at the build thread in my signature. There are a ton of pics from different angles (some dirty) but you can see how the red calipers will look with those wheels.

The center caps came in today, so now I'm just waiting on the emblems. I added 'shopped pictures of each color to the first post, although white was a write-in. I also did the small visible part plastic the same color as the emblem.

I dunno.. I'm really starting to like the white... I was all set on the red til I saw how the white would look, I thought it would be too much, but it seems cleaner looking than red. Especially if I do the same white the car is.. Wish I had put it on the poll...

Time attack stripe? The badges are already black on front & back, I've thought about red but think it'll look tacky

edit: just googled it, yes I have thought about doing a time attack stripe (just didn't know thats what it's called) but I think it would look too ricey
