hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. Im proud and excited to be picking up my 2000 4runner limited this weekend. I currently have a 500whp+ evo8 and have been looking for something to be "daily duty" while im finishing school. My dad has had a 1990 land cruiser (absolutely loved and would have gotten it as first car if gas wasnt close to $5/gal at the time :happens: ) and a 2005 4runner (traded in because he needed v8 and 4wd... he had a 6cyl 2wd 4runner :dammit: ). He loves the older yotas, and got me into them so here I am haha.

my 4runner:
2000 4runner limited, 2wd, v6, 140k miles. loaded with every option and kept in immaculate shape. owner just put on new tires and brakes too, and has records of service. i dont have a personal pic yet since he still has the truck, but its bone stock black/tan color scheme with tan leather/wood interior.

and just because im "that guy", my evo: :driving:
2003 evolution VIII gsr, built 2.0l motor, 61mm dual ball bearing turbo, quartermaster twin disk clutch w/hydro throw out bearing, and many supporting mods lol. low boost set at 27psi on pump gas, hopefully to be tuned on high boost and meth injection or E85 soon!

glad to be part of the community, even if i dont post here often. I always rely on forums for trouble shooting, community help, second opinions, etc. and ive already started looking around here.
Apparently i need to either replace the 4runners radiator or do an auto tranny cooler asap. Separate tranny coolers have many pro's in my book, and I see the b&m 70268 is a popular choice? anything i should be aware of when performing this? im no mechanical idiot, but i have never worked on a toyota before, so any insight would be greatly appreciated. ill probably post this redundant topic in the proper sub-section, but if someone whose done it has a few spare minutes to shoot me a pm i would greatly appreciate the help!

when you post a photo of your 4runner you best be posting photos of that Evo too

edit: and yeah re-post in your sub-section when you get your ride and congrats!

thanks. wont be getting the truck for a couple more days still, but heres a pic of the evo in the meantime! only good engine bay pics i have are from the build process. basically a regular turbo location with an external wastegate through the hood.

:lookout:

just picked up the truck! turns out the owner thought it was a 2000 until he looked at the title, but the title said 2001, so i actually gained a year haha. anyway, here it is

and one i found of the evo turbo/wastegate setup (through the hood) :naughty:

NICE!! IMO- replace the radiator lol, theyre not bad price wise- while if you get a free milkshake its gonna be pricey.. The guy I bought mine from spent 4k replacing the tranny and radiator. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the buy. Youve def come to the right place, but be warned this site is addicting and expensive lol..

Nice rides man! I had the opportunity to drive an ~450whp Evo that was caged with a LOT of weight reduction (probably should have worn ear plugs) fun cars! I appreciate that you're sporting the "no goofy monkey bar spoiler" look!

Oh, and even if you get the new radiator, drop in a trans cooler too. It took me (VERY little mechanical experience) about 45 minutes while using BigFishAllDay's extremely well put together walk-through.

haha oh believe me, i know how addicting forums get. i just have to tell myself that if i want to keep my evo (trust me, lots of $$ into that car..), i need to keep the 4runner stock and dependable. plans for the runner are b&m cooler, ipod/iphone hook-up, install my escort and hardwire kit, and maybe (down the line) better speakers/hu. still rockin the stock radio :)

thanks for the words "wilson", i originally took the spoiler off due to excessive attraction from the wrong crowd when driving across the state for school. now ill probably leave it off after driving without it. next for the evo is weight reduction since it should be making 550awhp+ pretty soon here and has a drivetrain ready for fun (rear diff bushings.. need rear diff bushings lol). after taking out the trunk and rear seats at just under 500hp, i love how much better it reacts after the diet.

I know man, that car was unreal. Downshifting around hairpin turns I felt like all 4 wheels were coming off the ground and the car was just pivoting around it.

agree. ive been dying to get mine on an actual track ("big" turbo might be interesting with lag for any non-drag type, but it wont stop me from trying!). when cornering at the limit while throttling the gas, the feeling of boost pushing you through the corners is unreal

a couple more pics of the evo (since theres more interest in it than i expected here lol)

unfortunately no good runs were to be had that day at the track :( hopefully have some decent times this summer though :hungry:
