New guy needing some advice on a few mods

Sweet. I'm thinking about getting those, then getting HIDs since I wanted blacked out headlights anyways.

Don't waste your money on those headlights you posted in the first link. I made mine look like that the other day in 3 hours so that would be a huge waste. As for getting HIDs with reflector style headlights, I can say they are really bright but when I bought my 04 they were already in there. I have never been flashed or anything because of them although they are really bright. However, i live in a southern college town and A LOT of people modify their vehicles so I'm "Just another ******* with 8000k HIDs"

That does look like crap. From what I've been reading I would need a 07 and up headlight unit and the filler panel correct? Will I run into any fitting issue if I try to use them? I've found a black aftermarket headlight unit, but I'm wondering if I can fit HIDs into them or not. They also have a replacement halo headlight unit that is not very expensive.

From what you guys know now, what would you do if you were in my position?

i was in your position. temped to buy the cheapo projectors. scared to do the projector retrofit. dont want condensation. scared to start something i couldnt finish and had no headlights. temped to say phuket and quietly do hid in the headlights and fogs since they are all over ebay for $25 a set. be selfish and phuket to all the other drivers.

You know this was thought about.

I looked for the cheapest set of headlights i could find. OEM expensive or real cheap but was foggy as hell and beat. eagle eyes on amazon was $80 shipped a pair, real junk BUT great to be donars for a retrofit. tyc were much more expensive but quality of lamps are much nicer.

What i did was buy eagle eyes, took them apart. found out that internals are identical to OEM. so i used the center bezel from the eagle eyes, the both outer shells front and back are OEM.

TRS morimoto mini H1 retrofit kit for the win!

I would have went with a larger shroud to fill in the gap a tab bit more. Looks nice none the less.

you one of those guys. i became a "hid in reflector housing" snob after i did my projectors LOL

I got the whole kit, HIDs and all, for $200, so I don't mind a little shroud gap

I've read how to black them out, but I'm just hesitant about doing it my self. I'm trying to find somebody here locally that could help, but everybody I know has gotten replacement's that were already blacked out.

I've thought about it, also thought about buying a cheap or broken set of headlights just to work for the fun of it. I probably will anyways, can never have to many of spare parts right?

I'm most likely going to buy new headlights, then get HIDs later when I get some more money.

Just to update everybody, I got my blacked out headlights installed yesterday, took about 5 hours trying to figure out why I couldn't put the drivers side in. But I finally did get it.

FYI: I have HID's in my '05 reflectors and it's not a problem. I love how they illuminate the road and so far, I have not offended anyone that I know of. I had my wife drive my Runner toward me while I was in her car, just to be sure and I was certainly not "blinded".

I had the opposite issue than [MENTION=89791]preacher35[/MENTION]. I tried a set of drop-in HID's in my 04, the glare was all over. Yes it was brighter, but on the 04 it was glare city.
