new guy, new problems

Hey guys, just signed up here, I got this 2005 t4r sport edition for a steal the other day off craigslist for $12,500 with 90k miles. But now I am seeing why the price was so low, it does have some issues I didn't notice while inspecting it, and go figure shady craigslist people cant tell the whole truth..heres in order of importance..

1. The transmission will NOT shift into 2L (the last one)...All other gears work fine, and the transmission is very smooth while driving..

2. The slow, and medium speed for the front window wipers don't work. It does work with the last FAST speed, but I have to time it right to get them to stay down..otherwise if i turn them off they will sit at the middle or top of the window and block the view..

3. I've read the brake pulsating and slight clunk after holding the break is common. However, I also notice sometimes as I initially accelerate hard, there is the slightest pause before it really starts moving. thinking it could just be some electronic sensor going bad for the pedal?

if anyone has seen these similar issues and can help me out, i appreciate it

So if I read this right your 4runner does not shift into 2nd or 1st gears. So it starts off in 3rd? You should be able to tell if it is. It would be sluggish as hell starting from a stop if it is indeed starting in 3rd. Or, you can't physically shift it into 2, L? Saw your other thread but I didn't ask this question. As for the wipers, I think I saw somewhere on here someone else having the same issue and it was a circuit board in the wiper motor going out. That happens a lot to older GMs. As for the throttle lag, what was your last vehicle. Some of the newer drive-by-wire systems have a little lag. It is pretty noticable when switching to different vehicles sometimes. Drive it for a while you may get used to it.

Maybe this will work for your wipers. I wrote up this fix for my 2003 problem.

nice write up! I'll definitely try that first, but I see that you said the slow and fast speeds would work. On my 4runner, only the fast speed works, and that's it. They also don't stay down when turned like you said...well see thanks man

On any vehicle, brakes that pulse when applied indicate that the rotors overheaded and warped, thus the non-steady sensation. If you have the rotors turned (assuming the pads are good) you might solve that problem. Good luck with your repairs!

Did you run a carfax when you bought the vehicle? If there is fraud with the odometer, you may have recourse with the seller. The carfax shows ownership changes and the mileage when they occurred. Hope this helps some.

Could also be the dreaded "frozen piston in the front caliper" issue.
