Just thought I would say hi. I have a 1990 4runner and it been a great truck. Water pump is leaking and I thought I would join 4runner forum. I belong to other forums for motorcycles and have found them a great help for repair and many other things.

welcome fellow 4runner-er haha. yea i have a 1991 sr5 4runner and my water pump went out. did it my self in about a day, never done it before and was nervous when it came to the timing. but if you have the right tools then its cake. just time consuming and i hate draining coolant. lol any questions on how i did it, feel free to ask.

Water Pump

The timing belt was done about a year ago by a mechanic ( should have replaced water pump ) Not willing to pay people to do a job I can do. I was wondering if the timing belt is good (should be) Can the water pump be done with out removing the crank pulley?

Water Pump Done !!

I replaced the water pump and thermostat. It wasnt to to bad, just time consuming. I also I'm glad I did it myself because the place (KP automotive) that did the timing belt a year ago should have replaced the water pump. They also left a couple of bolts loose and the timing belt tensioner should have been tighter. THEY SUCK ! I didnt have to pull the crank pulley to remove the water pump, which made this job a little easier. Thanks to all the feedback !

Man I love the snub nose front on the earlier generations compared to mine (3rd gen).

That 1st pic I think just made up my mind, i'm doing some sort of 2nd gen front clip mod to my truck this summer...I love that profile.

hey mike im brent i live in newberg oregon. just thought i would give you a shout! it sucks they did not replace the waterpump when they did the timing belt. i run a shop in newberg and i will not and have never done anything like that. if the waterpump is ran by the timing belt it gets replaced weather its leaking or not. they sell kits that include all your idler pully and tensioner and timing belt and sometimes waterpump depends on what vehicle it is for. if you ever need any help or any question dont be afraid to ask. we specialize in toyotas and im always willing to help a fellow toyota owner!!! i will help with parts tech questions anything so dont be afraid to ask. anyone in the portland metro area can call for help 503 537 7224 and if you are passing through newberg make sure you stop by and say hi!! we do a lot of 4wheeling and starting up a club for toyotas.
