New guy, same problems!!

Hello everyone, I am Ryan, from Binghamton, NY. I have a '94 T4R that I just bought a couple months ago, I'm working on fixing her up and getting some cosmetics repaired before I post some pics.. nice to meet you all.

I am familiar with car forums, I have an '89 Turbo Grand Prix and I used to frequent the w-body forums. I apologize in advance for what I'm about to ask, but rest assured I have searched and been unable to find a solution to my problem with the rear window.

I have done this repair/replace the regulator before, but I am unable to find out how I can remove the glass when the hatch will not open because it is in the the up position, and I'm afraid I'm going to break it. If anyone could please offer me some advice on this issue it would be great!! The regulator is unbolted and the entire assembly moves, but the motor and rust keeps me from being able to separate the glass from the regulator in order to drop it and open the hatch. I'd really like to get this open because what good is a truck with no rear compartment!!

I think I've posted on this before also but anyway here's what I can remember.

There's a carpeted panel that I believe is made of particle board. It just pops off. You can use a screwdriver to pry it up and pop it off.

Under that there's a metal plate with about 6 bolts that also has to be removed.

Once this is off you can see some of the internal workings of the door.

There should be a mechanism somewhere in the middle that attaches to the door lock and handle. This has two cables running from it one to each side.

These cables control the door latches. You need to manually pull the cables to make the latches open.

Another option would be to work the window down by hand.

yes, it helps, unfortunately I already did all of this before posting my message

I don't know if the regulator is seized, or if the rollers on the arms that attach to the glass are seized, but the assembly will not move. I have the entire thing exposed and the regulator will move slightly, but in order for me to open the hatch the glass has to come down.

my question is how do I separate the glass and regulator without breaking the glass. the regulator I'm not concerned about as I have a replacement ready to go in.

well I just finished. I had a replacement regulator ready to go in, so I just took a medium sized screw driver and popped the regulator away from the wheels inside the window channels. Then I unbolted the motor from the assembly and the glass came down, and I opened the hatch, removed everything and bought new channels and a rear window exterior seal. $60 for the parts, about 3 hours time total. Was difficult opening the hatch the hinges were slow to give but its all oiled up and ready to go now, hopefully for some time to come.

Works great.
