New guy with questions about new V-8

I see that the 05 V-8 has 270 hp. What did they do to increase the hp? Also I have a 04 Sport V-8 and I want to help it out a little in the power department (nothing radical...and keep the warranty)...what are the basic mods? Thanks

Welcome to the board. A lot of material has been discussed about the new V8, do a search and you'll find it. Basically VVTI has been added thus increasing power through the power band.

Basic mods is a new exhaust system from the CAT back and intake. Supercharger has been pulled off the shelves so that's out of the question for now.

I'm kinda bummed about it...oh well. So what products are available in the air intake and exhaust department? Are all TRD products safe to use without voiding the warranty?

The VVT is not really a big deal. By changing the valve timing on the intake
valves you can get some added HP on the high end, above 4000 rpm. Since the V8
is seldom run above 2500 rpm in normal driving it is kind of a waste.

This is the way GM gets the HP figures for their I6 they use in the Trailblazers and etc.
Toyota did this on the V6, so it looked not so wimpy.

Where it looks good is in the advertising, when they say, we have more HP than the
competition.
