New here.. couple of questions

Hi all,

Recently purchased a Galactic Gray 2005 SE V8 2WD. This is my fourth 4-Runner and I've previously had a 92, 94 and 96. So far the truck is awesome and much more than I expected. It's really quite different than my previous ones. Very pleased.

My wife is 5 months pregnant now and so I'm giving up my 350Z for this truck. I really don't mind though, quite frankly I think at 41 I was just kind of to old now to fully enjoy the Z. Plus driving a sports car around where I live can be boring.

Now here's my dilemma. I started the purchase on 7/30. This would be our 3rd new Toyota from this dealership with the same salesman. We negotiated quickly and I was aware of the $1500 incentive for the V8. They had to locate a vehicle and therefore we didn't take delivery until 8/3. At this point the incentive was now $2k for a V8 but foolish me didn't check before we finished the deal.

I'm thinking of approaching them this weekend and explaining that they must have made a mistake because my incentive was $2k not $1500 as I believed. Anyone ever had something like this happen before? We are valued customers and have not gotten the survey yet.

Thanks for any help.

Never hurts to approach the GM at the dealer and talk to him... many are happy to accomodate you... afterall, we're talking $500 that comes out of Toyota's pocket, not the dealer.... and if it makes you happy enough to give them repeat business it's a no brainer for them to do what's right.

I had a coworker buy a Saturn Ion without realizing he was eligible for special pricing through our employer. He went back to them to talk things over and not only did they give him the special pricing, he decided to take advantage of the offer and upgraded to a new VUE.

I would definitely say something. A lot of dealers would just pocket that extra $500 and never say a word. If you have been a repeat customer and they want to continue doing business with you I would think they would do the right thing. Good luck and keep us updated.

As an attorney, I believe that if they received the $2,000 rebate, and thus pocketed the additional $500, then you should be reimbursed that amount under the legal theory of unjust enrichment (a catch-all legal theory in Florida).

Legal issues aside, ethics mandate that, as a loyal customer, the dealership (and/or Toyota) should provide you with the additional $500.

I am fortunate in that, while the rebate was $1,500 while I was negotiating, the rebate went up to $2,000 before I paid the deposit - thus securing my full $2,000 rebate.

As a side note, the $2,000 rebate here in Florida will be over at the end of the month. I have a gut feeling that the rebate will increase up to $2,500 during the month of September, which is closer to year end. Oh well, I just can't wait under week or so. Just gotta have my 4Runner!

Thanks all.

I'm going to talk to the GM in person this weekend. I do expect them to do the right thing. While we did put a deposit on the vehicle on 7/30 the dealership didn't get it until 8/02 and we picked it up on 8/03 so I think we fall into the $2k window.
