New Idea for CB Radio Mount

I have read alot of threads on installing a CB radio where the ashtray mounts on the 3rd gen 4Runner. I would like to keep my ashtray as I keep the valet key and change in it. So, I was thinking.....(dangerous thing to do)

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a sun visor clip that you could "hang" a lightweight, small CB radio from? I guess the wiring could be bundled and pulled out of the way but a sun visor could hold the CB radio up without having to cut or modify anything in the dash.

What does everyone think of this hair brained idea?

Need idea for sure. Though the sun visor can take hardly any weight, you would probably want a clip or velcro or something on the top side to keep it attached to the ceiling when up. You could also wire in through the ceiling carpet so you wouldn't see anything. It might get in the way or be annoying though...

I would put it on the passenger side so it hits them when it comes down.

If you had the right size radio, you could mount it where the sunglasses holder is above the rear view mirror.

I think finding another spot for keys/change would be easier...!
It is amusing that so much other technology has gotten smaller and more efficient
but the dying CB method is staying at about the size of a few DVD cases.
I should be able to pull the stupid dash cup holders (did '99 mod) and slide
in a compact CB unit with remote speaker.

Guess the Midland all-in-one styles are probably the least intrusive additions out there.

I've thought about fabbing the roof console to accept a Cobra 19 or Uniden 525xl, then you could have all the controls above your head, trucker style!

I was thinking about mounting mine on the roof because I like having a place for change too.

Once I got my radio, I was able to hold it up in various places to see what it would be like. (I have an Uniden 520) I put it near the visor and it was just too in-your-face. I held it up in the center too, but it had to be kinda far back and you couldn't really see the controls well and it was awkward trying to reach up there.

After a couple days of sleeping on ideas, I decided that there wasn't really enough headroom for it to go up there and I ended up putting it in the ash tray area. I currently have the ash tray sitting on the floor in the passenger side. Once you take off the bracket that holds the try to the trim, you can actually put it back on and use it as a lid!

I started with an overhead mount for my cobra 29, then changed my mind...imagine hitting that corner with your forehead when doing some rock crawling

I have that same cb^ . It is really nice to be able to unplug it and have it out of sight.

I had it "tuned" by a cb shop, so it is supposed to output the max wattage allowed.

I have no complaints as far as range or reception.
