New ignition lock cylinder - won't engage ignition - 1996 base

I had my ignition lock cylinder lock up and couldn't get it to acc to remove it so I had to drill it out.
The new one slides in fine and the key turns to lock, acc, on and start but when I try to start it nothing happens.
It also does not kill the power when I turn the key to lock and remove it.
When the key is in and the door is ajar the chime sounds and when I remove it the chime stops so it recognizes the keys in.

I can manually turn the ignition thing (not sure what it's called) inside the aluminum housing and it seems to settle in acc but is this somehow misaligned?

I don't see any damage to the aluminum housing or any parts inside and everything seems to be in one piece, I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

It's a 1996 4runner base model, 5spd, 2.7l 4cyl

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the shaft in lock cylinder barrel slides into the switch mechanism in the back. It is like a flat-screw driver sliding into the screw-head.

The door chime comes on when the key is in the cylinder so that is nothing to do with the ignition switch module.

Thanks for the reply but I think I just discovered that the spindle/rod behind the cylinder has broken at the very end.
