Just got the truck a few days ago, have not driven it a lot yet, as I am waiting for the registration process to be completed. Have been looking for one of these for 6 years now, this model is very rare in Japan so it took me quite a while to find one at the right price/value point. It is a 1995 Hilux 4 Door Pickup LN107 frame, 2L 2.4L Diesel Turbo engine lifted, with over-fenders and 30 inch tires. The 4 door pickups usually sell for three times what the SUV Hilux Surf does over here. Been lurking for a bit, great forum, look forward hearing what everyone has to say.
Live on a subtropical island with coral roads so rust is a constant losing battle. This one has a little above the windshield and some along the bottom of the doors as the window seals are bad, frame looks good though. First order of business will be to change the timing belt, seals, and all fluids. Second need to remove the poorly installed stereo system, and re-install the pieces deemed necessary properly. Third will get it properly undercoated, change the window seals, then have the rust fixed properly with sheet metal. Plan to install a electronic rust controller, have read reviews all over the map but in our salt water environment have seen them work wonders personally. Off road use will be light so want to replace the roll bar with an aluminum tool box as well.
New to Hilux's and 4WD for that matter. Still trying to figure out what the USDM equivalent is for my vehicle because suspension parts, and accessories are SO much cheaper in the US. Best guess is 2nd Gen, hopefully you guys can tell me from the pictures. Some have mentioned to me that Australia has these as well. Curious to learn if my model has an LSD, won't be able to get to it for a few more days.
