Hello everybody.
Finally got a 1999 3rd Gen 4runner last summer. So far I absolutely love it.
Kind of a unique story of how I got it:
I was on the way to look for yet another 4runner on my months long hunt for the perfect one. As I got close to where the guy told me to meet him I saw a great looking black one sitting in a parking lot and thought "Ok, that must be it". Called him to tell him I was there and he said "I don't see you". Turns out, I had taken a wrong turn and was looking at the wrong one. I met up with the guy and I checked it out, test drove it and it was pretty rough. Not something I wanted to put money into. On the way back I happened to see a guy walking towards that great looking black one I originally had spotted. So I took my chances, blasted across the parking lot to catch him before he could drive off (he had a rather scared look on his face when he saw me flying towards him
). Talked to him and asked him if he considered selling it. Turns out he was and a week or so later it was mine.
120k, not a lot of rust (for MN at least), rear diff lock and overall in very nice condition.
So far I have done some maintenance work on it (incl. a rear axle seal replacement). Just ordered some parts to do a Tundra brake upgrade. Would like to slowly turn this baby into an adventure road trip rig.
Haven't gotten to mess around on any trails yet really, as I don't really know of many in my area. Maybe there are some fellow MN'ans who know of some?
So far this site has been of great help to me so I figured I better sign up.
Cheers everyone.
