Hello all-
Steve M here. No not that one, but if you get the name reference you know the rest.
Recently purchased a 2000 'runner as a bit of a project. It looks good for 179K miles, clean body and interior but it has a few issues that I am looking forward to correcting with a little help from y'all.
This one has 4 banger and an auto trans, two wheel drive and bottom line trim level. I've owned two Toyotas previously - an '84 4x4 truck and a '99 4Runner Limited that I regret getting rid of but had to it when developed a terminal rear end noise in Ohio at 126K and I did not have the time to limp it back home for repair. Should have tried - a truly awesome truck.
So this one is a hobby. I want it to be a mileage-maker as my daily ride is a Ford F-350 that cranks out 10 MPG on a good day. I want to use it to haul my dogs to the beach and the mountains and to drive job-to-job where I have to park in parking garages.
I bought it from a little dealer who took care of the smog as part of the deal. That's all great but a day after I took possession the CEL came on and I have to beat it like a rented mule to get it to go anywhere. These 4 bangers aren't rocket engines but this one definitely needs help. It also has all of the usual problems too - A/C button bad, seat belt retractor, dead rear wiper, etc.
I stopped working on cars when they dropped carburetors and am looking forward to picking up some new skills. Gotta buy a code reader and maybe a scan gauge. Someone put 275/75 tires on this truck and the little motor is not up to the task so some 225/75 stockers are on the list, along with some sort of sound system that accommodates bluetooth and a phone hookup. I've read the advice for newbies and look forward to buying an ocean of Seafoam, cleaning various intake components and probably replacing the radiator. Someone has had the head off of this one and I need to check compression to see if they screwed up the job and how bad. It doesn't overheat, so there is that.
Love all the mods you guys do to your trucks and once I get a solid baseline I look forward to doing some custom mods too.
