New Member AND New 2 4Runner - Georgia

Hey everyone!

So I'm about to buy a 4runner. Tomorrow morning a guy is going to bring a 1997 3rd Gen to my mechanic for inspection. Pictures make it look good (as always) and the guy seems pretty convinced its rather cherry. It's an SR5 Sport Package with 177k on it. He is asking $5900 for it but says he'll take as low as $5700... I'd REALLY like to give him $5400 but he doesn't seem interested in less than $5700.

So I'm getting this as a weekend vehicle that I will drive to the range and other various matches (I'm a competitive shooter :sniper:). I'm also interested in out fitting this truck a bit and getting into some semi serious trail riding.

I look forward to being a part of this community and can't wait to meet new friends here! I'm hoping to lean on you guys, the experts, as I get to know my new 4Runner and start to mod her out!

Anyone know a good place to shop for used off road parts??

Glad it all came out fine and sounds like you were able to talk him down pretty good.

Depending on where you live theres' some vendors on here for various parts, 3rd gens have lots of options out there for them.

Hey guys... I was starting to wonder. Glad to see there are some people alive out there!

Can't wait to start getting this truck ready for the trails!
 
I'm pretty sure they'll fit, as long as they're 6 lug wheels like your Runner will have. They'll have different offsets etc so they'll sit in your wheel well different but they should bolt on.
 
I just bought an 04 4Runner. It was sold to me with the damn empty gas light on! So I had to get gas immediately even before driving it home. When getting gas, a guy pulls up next to me with a 97. I asked him how he liked it and he went on and on how great the truck was. Bought it used w/low mileage for 14,000 and now has 180,000 on it and says never does anything but oil changes!!!!Then he looked at mine and said he would like to get a newer one, but can't see why he would let go of this one. He says he gets offers from people all the time that want to buy it.
 
I'll get some photos up as soon as I can... the damn thing is SUPER clean. Like I said, I had my mechanic check it out before I bought it and there was nothing, nothing, nothing at all he could find wrong with it. When we changed the oil in it the oil still looked great even though the previous owner told me it was due for a change. I'm looking forward to a lot of fun with this truck!

I've been looking about for parts trying to decide what I'm going to get for it. I'm thinking of posting a "build thread" and listing out all of the parts I'm considering as to get everyone's input. Could be fun and helpful!

Lucky for me I have all of the guns and gear I need for this season of shooting so there are funds available for this project. I can't wait, I haven't bee this excited about a vehicle since high school!!

Hey Hapeacres, thought I would mention something to you in reference to the mileage that guy had gotten. When I was in my early 20's I had one of those late 80's little 4 banger Toyota pickups. I was terrible with it and would often go 30k+ miles without even as much as an oil change... sold it running great @ 252k on the ticker!! Just can't seem to kill a Toyota truck!!
