I traded a 2000 Ford Mustang for a 1995 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I think I made a huge mistake. The 4Runner has a rear main seal leak. It needs to be fixed, but I'm told any additives to the oil will cause the seal to turn to mush. I was quoted $400-$600 to put a new seal in, but the mechanic did not recommend it. He told me it would only cause the new seal to go out too. I asked what other alternatives I had, and he said rebuild or new engine. Rebuilt engine will only be fixed up to what is wrong with it at the time. Sadly, you can't get new Toyota engines for this vehicle. Only place I did find is Jasper engines. But a new engine through them plus labor will be roughly $7,149.01. That is out of the question. So, I guess its time to junk the ol gal. Wonder how much a junk yard will give for it..Here is a picture of it.

I wouldn't junk it. Part it out, you'll make more than scrap value. Some parts are harder to find for 2nd gens and people will jump all over them on this website. And don't let one bad yota change your mind forever. They are still awesome. Best of luck to ya no matter what ya choose.

Thanks for the welcome superman! I saw this site online, and out of desperation thought maybe I could get some advice or input on the situation. I agreed to the trade because I thought it would last longer than my mustang being it was a Toyota. My mustang had 160,000 miles on it, but no problems. The Toyota has 214,000 miles on it. The sad part is...it runs great! Just has that rear main seal leak. The valve cover issue had already been fixed to the newer style, timing chain was already replaced, all belts and hoses replaced. Previous owner kept it up well. Even gave me all the service and maintenance records. It was all done by Toyota dealerships. But I guess I let that blind me to an underlying issue. Next time, I will get underneath and look for oil leaks!
