New member, new truck....tell me what you think

I just bought my first 4runner. (Well, my wife has a 2013 Limited, but this one is mine!) I think I got a pretty good deal on it. Its a 94 with 95k miles in immaculate condition. I'm the second owner. The original owner was an older man who hardly ever drove it and kept it garaged for years. I have the service records and they show the shocks were replaced in 2007 and the odometer read 81k miles. The brakes were in rough shape so I just had the entire front and rear brakes replaced. The passenger side CV boot is leaking and the rear window doesn't work, but besides that, its in awesome shape!

Welcome and sounds awesome. Be prepared to love it more than anything you have driven before.
 
Same here

I bought mine the same way - 98K miles and immaculate except for the rusty bumpers and no air. I recharged the air, bought a new set of tires and I'll be replacing the bumpers. Truck works great - Bought it for 600.
 
Im about to jack the truck up to check the CV axle and change oil. Any tips on how to tell if I need the axle replaced or just the boot kit?

Crank the wheel all the way to the right and drive up a smal curb on the drivers side then do the exact opposite and if it clicks and makes noise then you need a new axle. Good luck.
 
I finally got the axle out. Man that was a real PITA. I downloaded the FSM (pretty much useless for the task), and 3 different write ups on it. None of them seem to cover every little thing. (I need stuff broken down Barney style sometimes!). After a few trips to the Autoparts store and Harbor freight to buy all my tools again, (I'm military....they tend to lose stuff in our moves), I got started. Everything went pretty well at first. I got the wife to hold the brake so I could loosen the 6 extremely tight nuts on the axle. Then, I got the snap ring loose with 2 screwdrivers and removed the washer. It slid out a few inches then stopped. It was now lockd in place and would move in either direction. I adjusted the jack and jack stands multiple times and it still wouldnt budge. I've spend the last 2 hours beating the crap out of it to get it to move. I eventually had to bust off the outter boot in order for it to slip past the shock. Let me give a peice of advice that would have saved me the 2 hours of knuckle busting......REMOVE THE DAMN SHOCK!! Once I tore the outter boot off, it gave me enough room to remove the shock and the entire axle fell right out. Now, i get to wait while the auto parts store orders me another one. I really hope it goes back on easier than it came off!
