Greetings fellow 4runner fanatics! Gotta say I love this site, been trolling a while and figured it was time to join in. Picked up my very first 'Runner about a month ago, a '00 Limited 4x4. Previously owned a '00 Taco and '01 Tundra, but with 2 kiddos now I decided to go the SUV route. No regrets thus far...
So I have a few questions. First is in regards to programming the factory keyless entry. The fobs didn't work, 1 would lock the doors only and the other didn't work at all. I could not get the truck to enter the programming mode, and I only had 1 key anyway, so I had the ECU replaced under the Toyota Replacement Program. So now I got 2 good master keys, but I still can not for the life of me get the damn thing to go into the programming mode! I've seriously tried every method I could find at least 20 times each to no avail. Even tried manually assisting the lock while pushing the button, different speeds, etc. The dealer could not program them as well when they replaced the ECU, or so they said. Of course they were willing to troubleshoot for another $100... Is there something else to try/look for, or am I just not being stubborn enough? Pretty much over this already, not worth the stress. But wanted to see if anyone had fresh new ideas before I completely throw in the towel.
Second, I'm looking for the "must-do" free/cheap mods you guys recommend. I did the gray wire mod and rewired the fog lights. Now I'm contemplating the deck plate and silencer mods, if they're worth the effort. Opinions on these? Any other low budget mods I'm missing?
Lastly, I'm located in Central Coast, CA. Where would be a good place to look for clubs or the like? I'm sure there are several members on here located near me, you guys ever get together for wheelin' trips? Pretty much stock right now so not looking to tackle the Rubi just yet, but I definitely don't mind getting it dirty either.
