Nissan finally updating the ol' girl. Doubtless, it won't convince me out of a 4R, although if it came with a diesel......sorry, daydreaming again....

The Nissan Pathfinder Concept, which is set for its world debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show beginning on January 9th, takes all of Pathfinder’s traditional SUV hallmarks and wraps them in a new platform and dramatic new aerodynamic body. And another CUV is born. Hmmm, maybe the Explorer needed a Pathfinder to Blaze-r way to Durango and get past the Cherokees and make peace with the Highlanders?
 
That's exactly why I decided to buy the 2012 4Runner. The current Pathfinder is outdated and the new one is a crossover. Nissan lost me as a customer due to CUV on the way.
 
I really like (ed) the pathfinder... the biggest thing that made my decision to get a 4R instead was the fuel economy. I think it was like 25% worse city, and 10% worse highway... not impressive when its lighter/less powerful!
 
I owned 2 PF in a row prior to buying the 4R. I've gotta say they were great vehicles, drove 'em to >90k trouble-free. I didn't need to replace either one, just wanted to. Very nearly bought a 2010 with V8 - boy does that sucker GO - but Nissan wanted waaay too much for it.
 
Already having the Murano and Rogue CUVs, plus the rumours of them discontinuing the XTerra (is that official now?) I was hoping they'd get the Pathfinder back to its roots. I used to love the 1st and 2nd generations of it...
 
Unibody construction is slowly creeping into the truck world. I hate to say it, but I doubt there will be a 6th Gen 4Runner with body-on-frame construction. I think the Land Cruiser may be the last stand for BOF Toyota SUVs.
 
Oh yea, another CUV.

I am glad, there really is a small market for true off road vehicles. As long as they continue to offer for this market, I will be happy, let the soccer moms have their cars and leave ours alone. They are the ones who gave the bad rap to them (suv's) in the first place.

I wish that another auto maker would throw in a good off road vehicle, would be cool if Ford came back with the bronco, and made it compete with the 4 runner.
 
Even though I was seriously looking at PFs in 1995, I ended up with a 95 4Runner, and never looked back, I'm on my third one now.

I'm sure Nissan will sell many more of the new Pathfinders then Toyota ever will with the 4-Runner but like many members here have indicated, a body-on-frame vehicle is not for everyone and I am happier for it. I do have some fond memories of past Pathfinders. When I had my 1990 T4R a good friend had a 1990 Pathfinder. Neither of the vehicles was bought new and we each put a ton of miles on them with few problems. By the time we sold them the only area that I would have given the Pathfinder the "edge" was in rust resistance. I eventually went on to buy a 3rd generation which was undoubtedly one of the finest T4R I had ever owned. He went on and bought a 1997 Pathfinder. We both agreed by then that the Pathfinder was without a doubt inferior to my 3rd gen.

I was close to buying a 2009 pathfinder Off Road back in late 2009. It was a nice truck, but I think a new 4runner is much better. Ended up keeping the Xterra a few more years before getting the 4runner.

It is interesting that they talk about the "four wheel drive" not "all wheel drive" new Pathfinder. It would be great to keep another body on frame mid size SUV on the road, but it's unlikely. Maybe they will be looking more into making a Jeep Grand Cherokee competitor.
 
Apparently, this is the kissing cousin to the weird-looking Infiniti JX shown at LA show and will share same bones, meaning it will use Nissan’s D platform that also holds up the Murano and Maxima. Power will come from Nissan’s VQ V-6, and most likely have CVT gearbox.

Toyota markets the Highlander as 4WD. I wouldn't put too much stock in the nomenclature they use to indicate that all 4 wheels get power at some point.
 
Really don't see the point for Nissan to have so many ugly crossovers. The Nissan Puke (juke) is the ugliest car in the world.
 
The new body style pathfinder like 05-11 was already boarder line crossover with its lower stance and independent rear suspension.

I like armadas but they are like huge crossovers too, you really couldn't offroad it at all.
