New paint problem

Someone rear ended me a few weeks ago and my 04 finally is fixed....go to pick it up the paint is a seriously different shade of grey, its suppose to be galactic grey, which is lighter than what they painted it. Now I'm having a hard time deciding if I should leave it the way it is or have them repaint it. The guy that painted it had a big attitude about it saying its the same color, its all about the way your looking at it. He said thats as good as he could get it, but obviously he didnt try very hard to match it a little better. What would you do?? I would post pics but I have a really hard time posting them for some reason. Thanks :)

It's YOUR truck, not his. damn his attitude, maybe he should have done a better job.

i would take it back and demand that they do it right... i dont see any other options. :noidea:
 
I want to take it back.....he was very persistent on that was as good as he could get it. What he did was color coded it to the factory toyota 2004 galactic grey, when he should have started with that and added probably a little blue to lighten it. I guess my biggest concern is taking it back and he makes it even worse (on purpose)....Two people have told me that they didnt notice it til I said something about it, but its driving me crazy.......
 
If insurance paid for it AND you went to one of their shops they will have an adjuster come look at it, and if they think its not right the insurance will pay a different shop to re do it if the original shop says that's the best they can do

I guess I screwed myself by not using one of their preferred shops:doh:
 
Try taking it to one of their preferred shops or some other reputable body shop and see if they think the paint matches. If they don't think it matches either then get an estimate from them and take it back to the first guy and tell him to either fix it or he gets the bill when you get it fixed elsewhere.
 
Depending on how many days it has been, the paint takes a while to cure completely and it will lighten slightly as it does. Hopefully it will lighten to match better.

How long has it been since you waxed the truck? If that has been a while you might try a good polish & wax. That will deepen the color and maybe help match it up to the new paint
 
i work for an ins company so here is what you can do.

1- if you did not take it to one of the ins. companies preferred shops there is nothing the ins co. will do.

2- he is feeding you a line about nothing else he can do. its his responsibility to put the car back to pre accident cond. he should give some sort of guarantee(it is actually your responsibility to ask if he offers one before the work is done).

3- 98% of the time bumpers do not match from the factory. you might have never noticed it before but now you are drawn to it because of the loss and you know its there. you can have him "blend" the new paint into the quarter panels so you are not drawn to the new paint only on the bumper. that itself should take care of the problem.
 
EXACT same thing happened to mine, before I owned it. Previous owner was in a crash that messed up the driver's door...and whoever painted it got it too dark. Now it sticks out like a sore thumb! If I was him, I would have never accepted it.

I got a quote to fix it for around $400 before I bought it. Eventually I'm going to get it painted the right way.

I bought it last September and have not waxed it.....dont know when the previous owner did. Its been about a week since it was painted.

#2 there is a guarantee...but the way his attitude was (ex. when your food order was wrong and you send it back, hopefully the cook didnt spit in it) Im just not sure if I have the trust to let (him) redo it.

#3 the right back bumper was repainted and I cant tell the difference, the left back bumper was clear coated and there are two spots where you can see it running down, like he applied it too heavily and it ran. Its only the back door that the color doesn't match.

Before you take it anywhere find out from the dealership or a serious toyota person where a great paint shop is!!
 
take that ish back.. hes obviously either lazy or incompetent..you don't want different shades for the life of your truck or resale value issues.

edit: a quality painter can match any color no problem..

one of my custom cars a few years back, I had them match the paint and it was
a custom color.. he matched it perfectly.

Screw him he sounds like an ass.
If I get get a near perfect match with spray paint from a can, a body shop can do way better.

With todays paints and custom paint mixing...it's very hard for a competent body man to screw it up. He's obviously NOT competent. My wife had a little mishap with her maroon Lexus a couple years back. Some idiot at WallMart didn't put the cart away and it rolled down hill putting a nice 4' scratch on drivers side of her car. Maroon or Red can be a difficult color to match. The body shop matched it PERFECTLY. The whole side had to be repainted. I looked and looked..and could NOT tell the difference.

I would chalk this up to lesson learned..and never go to this bodyshop again. And let all your friends know about this place. Sometimes it's NOT worth the hassle.

I had an accord years ago that was hit by a woman with State Farm insurance. They had to replace a fender and hood, but sf refused to use oem panels. When I went to pick it up the hood didn't line up well. I told the guy at the shop I wasn't going to accept it until it was correct. It wasnt terrible but it was off. They ended up having to put a Honda hood on it and keep me in a rental car about a week longer. Th adjuster wasn't to happy.
