I hit my 15 posts this morning, and just dropped off the signed paperwork at FedEx on my new truck. I'm in CA, but couldn't find a dealer in the state that wanted my business (besides prices of $2-10k over MSRP, they were all arrogant jerks). I got good customer service and bought below MSRP from City Toyota in Great Falls, MT. Even with the shipping costs, I'll save about $1,600 from the best deal I could find in CA...and the truck was on the lot and should be here by the end of next week. Yay! :dancin:

Purchased an SR5P this week in CA and received the same "VIP" treatment from many dealers in SoCal.
8 dealers turned down my business and finally got a fair deal.
Can't imagine what my treatment would be if we inquired on a pro.

I lived in Orange county and didn't even try dealing with CA dealers. I talked with Reno Toyota a couple times on the phone and got my limited for $5k under sticker otd. $160 plane ticket and they picked me up at the airport. Bonus: my first drive in my new 4r was driving the 80 through the mountains.
 
Guys... we do not need another "how much did you pay?" thread. This guy just got a new truck. Say congrats and move on.

It's not just the supply and demand impact on price, it's the whole attitude of the salespeople and especially the sales managers. And Toyota is better than a lot of them.

If you don't mind my asking....what prompted you to get the Pro?
 
Austin is not that far off from the CA prices on many things now. Those people are moving here daily and proving it. Given that, I had no trouble purchasing my 2016 TEP and getting a discount. I reached out to two dealers myself. The USAA buying service sent out my info to three dealers. I was able to get a better price myself. There were not many 4x4 TEP vehicles in the area. So many 4x2 configurations though. And the whole process was not nearly as painful as I had planned.
Japan is not that far from CA for shipping, right? They are straight across from each other for crying out loud.

No, it is ONLY supply and demand. If the supply is low and the demand is high, people will pay a premium regardless of the attitudes of the salesmen. You simply went to a place where the supply and the demand is equal. If everyone wanted a TRD PRO at the place you bought yours the prices would be the same as Cali and the salesmen would be just as bad.

I would be very reluctant to say that outright. It could be possible that there are not many available, but also this is as much a tactic as it is reality. Anyone that thinks they know the total numbers vs what is being said is simply spewing sewage.

The classic example of how the super rich keep their purchase prices low is to create shell companies. Once people know that you have money to spend, the prices increase dramatically.

If you are talking about the function "price gouging" then it is still simply supply and demand. If the demand for a product is high enough and the supply is low, people, rich or poor, will pay. Econ101.

Negative. This "tactic" of which you speak would vanish in a heartbeat if the lot (supply) had 15 TRDPs in it. Again, Econ 101.

Lol because people are paying list and list+. The customers want it (demand) and since the dealers don't have many (supply) the customers are willing to pay a premium.
There is no conspiracy.
There is no "hidden stock."
The government is not involved in the business transaction of dealer-customer 4Runner sales.

Again, econ101. Have you had it?
