New SR5 vs TRD off road vs Jeep Unlimited

Get the 4Runner!!! Just sold a 2016 Jeep Wrangler JK. No comparison to the 4Runner. I choose the TRDOP, but with a family, I would go with the third row seat. Trust me you will need it with three kids, friends, and pets.

Wrangler was uncomfortable, cramped, underpowered(even with an Edelbrock Supercharger), and geared totally wrong. Granted I had 33" tires on it with bumpers.

Go test drive them back to back, no comparison in my book.

I have a 2015 Limited and just bought, five days ago, an SR5. We have driven the Limited from Phoenix to San Diego with no 5th gear stability issues. We also use it around town with no issues. I test drove an OR without KDSS and it was horrible on ride. I traded a 2014 Ram 4wd with AT tires and that was a Cadillac compared to the OR. I had all intentions of getting that but, I dont really off road so no big loss.

Her Limited handles great in the rain. I can tell a difference but I would not buy that for serious off road, although I'm sure people do.

What hearing was in your JK? I'm guessing 3.21s?

I had 4.10s (factory option) in my '15 JKUR and had no issues running 35s in the mountains. Note that they were GY Duratracs, not a super heavy MT.

To the OP: as a person who spent the last decade raising kids while driving Jeeps, a 4Runner is probably the better decision. A 4Runner *may* not be as much fun, but it is certainly more practical.*

Now if it was pure offroad capability you were after, I dont think you can outperform the JK/JL from the factory, especially in Rubicon trim.


* Re: Jeep reliability; Also wanted to mention, between my wife and I, we have owned 3 JKs, 1 TJ, 2 Liberties, and a Cherokee and never had any serious mechanical issues. Perhaps we've been extraordinarily lucky.
