New Subwoofers! Need help tuning!

I put these dual 12" Rockford P2s in the other day. My friend let me borrow them at no cost to me! He even gave me all the wiring too. So I have no investment into these right now.

The amp connected to the back is a 600.1 600 watt rms Rockford amp that just isn't pushing these things to their full potential. I have no experience in tuning amps and I don't know if it's the amp or the headunit that needs to be adjusted.

The gain on the amp for the subwoofer is set a little over half and the frequency is set around 80 Hz. Both the Hpf and the Lpf are set on flat on the HU. The HU is an Alpine CDA-9811. My friends are the ones who ultimately put these in because they have done it before so they could have possibly not hooked it up correctly as I wasn't paying enough attention to the guy working on the stereo. I was too fixated on the subs themselves. OOPS

I know there's some stereo gurus out there so if you have any suggestions for tuning these help me out!

Lpf on the deck should be at 80. Hpf should be at 80-125. Use 125 if still on stock speakers. On the amp for the sub, lpf at 80, if u need more bass do it from 80-160, i think i did it at 160 on sealed box, now im usin ported box it still at 80 and more bass than sealed. On the subs are they 8 ohm each or 4 ohm. How is it wired to the punch amp.

The subwoofers are in a sealed enclosure therefore I am unsure of the ohm rating on the subs. I would probably know if they weren't my friends but I don't really want to open his box up because it's gooped everywhere. When he got box, he gooped around subs and also took off the rear of the box to wire the new amp so I have no idea if they are wired in series or parallel either. :ybrick:

However, I do know that there are 2 sets of wires running into the box from the amplifier (+/- , +/-). There are only two dials on the amplifier, 1 for gain (which has no numeric markings) and 1 for the lpf (which has values ranging from 0-250 Hz I believe). There is an infrasonic filter switch but I have read that to be left on.

I think it's odd, but when I turn up the generic bass, not the subwoofer bass setting, it increases bass for the speakers AND subwoofer. This really sucks because as I turn up the volume with this bass cranked, my speakers start to distort but my subwoofer finally starts to bump. I do have a separate subwoofer setting, but it really doesn't get the job done either when it's cranked to the max.

I am out of options I believe.

seal box should have the infrasonic switch to off, and in the eq on the deck, lower the bass to 2 or so and play with the sub settings on the deck. on the deck use 80hz as the lpf and 125 hpf on the other speakers. now on the amp try 160hz and see if the bass is more louder. i think u might need ur firends to reset the gains.

i did use those settings with the same p2 and amp u have, before i went with jl audio setup , i had better results now with jl audio amp and subs.

Thanks rice. I will turn off the infrasonic filter and make sure the lpf and hpf on the deck are set to 80 and 120 Hz. And yes they are the stock speakers. I did mess with the gain settings on the amplifier and the more I turn them up the more the sub bumps. However, I read that turning the gain all the way up can lead to clipping on the amplifier. So I have the gain set at about 75% and the frequency to around 80Hz. I will screw with the settings a little bit more to see if I can get these things to move a little bit more.

I am more of a fan "clean" bass. When I pull up to a stoplight and see someone whos trunk is nearly rattling off the car, I just laugh. The rattling just makes it sound like a cheap job. I am not a big fan of just hearing the big bass. I like to hear everything from highs to lows. So maybe that's my problem. Anyway, I messed with the settings a wee bit last night and got it to sound decently better. I will try messing wiht it some more.

Very nice set up. I got 2 P2 10'' in sealed box with a Punch amp wired at 2 ohm 500watt and it thumps perfectly.

Thats a monster box Lineman! Is there any internal dividers in there or is it just that, a big box? They look great though. They are only 10 inchers.

Also, if you don't mind what are some of your settings on your sub amp and head unit?

i think the gain should be at half at most, and just use 160 as frequency on the sub amp. i have tried 80hz on sealed box setup, but it wasnt enough bass, so i did 120 on the amp and then 160 and i just left it there.

i did the rockford fosgate p2, it was close to a jl audio w3, but it didnt have the quality sound to it, so i upgraded to the jl audio w3v2 in 2006, and it was way cleaner and deeper. now im looking to get some w6v2 for some louder hitting bass that makes people roll the window up, i am that guy who makes other people roll the window up at a stop light. i just hate it when people be on there phones and drive.

Yes, monster box. It was under the back seat of my Nissan Titan. Custom made for P2's with exact amount of air space. Tech12Volt out of Altanta custom made it for me. Soooo, instead of getting rid of the box, I made it work for the Runner. Yes, there is a divider between them.

I think the sub output on my deck is set to nothing below 80 htz get's to them. I have the amp set at about halfway.
