New T4R Owner! Cigarette Lighter Question

Hey everyone-

I just picked up a 2004 Limited and love it so far! The only issue so far is the 12V power source. I tried plugging in both iPod and Garmin power and neither the front nor rear seems to be working. I searched here and checked the fuse under the steering column, which was fine, but now I'm stumped. I have a feeling the genesis of this problem is probably that the previous owner (or let's hope her young daughter) put a dime and few pennies in the front 12V. I managed to get all of the change out but now no power to either source.

Any suggestions?

I've checked a fuse before which looked fine, turn out to be bad. Wouldn't hurt swapping it out.

All I can ask is are you sure you looked at the right fuse? For both of them to not work it sounds like a fuse or relay issue of some sort.

If the front one shorted so bad, but not blow the fuse, it could have damaged the wiring...but I am not certain that it would've also affected the rear at the same time...Surely the fuse would've blown before the wires would've melted.

You might pop the console off and look at the wiring of the front power plug and just make sure its still connected up properly. If it comes off as easily as the '08 console/gear shifter cover, it would only take you about a minute or less to get at it.
 
I'm positive I'm looking at the correct fuse. Unless Toyota's diagram on the reverse of the fuse panel is wrong and I don't know the difference.

I popped the center panel off and saw nothing out of ordinary. Wiring to 12V looked fine and all connections appeared to be clean. I'll take Lowpro's advice and swap the fuse out anyway. They're only a few bucks and at least I'll know.

I also tried the 115V and it works fine. No clue if those two are related in these vehicles, but it may give one of you experts a clue.

Next step - change out the seemingly good fuse.
 
Replaced the fuse, and still nothing. Neither front nor rear 12V outlet works.

This vehicle does have a factory installed rear DVD system. There's no reason why the power that should be going to those outlets goes there instead, is there? That may be a dumb question, but being new at this it was my only thought.
 
I too had and have the same problem again with my 07 SR5. I can't get any power to charge my MP3 player from the one in the center console.

The first time it was the fuse. It didn't look like the fuse was blown but I changed it out and found that was the problem. Now is isn't working again. I'll try changing out the fuse again tomorrow to see if it blew again. Anyone else have any problems with this fuse? And why would it blow twice on me?

Anyone have any suggestions?

I use these things all the time for navigation or iPod. If there's anything that you all know of that I could do before shelling out however much to get it fixed, I'd appreciate it.
 
Call it the great fuse caper, I guess.

I changed the fuse a second time and it worked. I don't know what the odds are of replacing a fuse with a dud from the package, but that's what I did.

I replaced the fuse with another from the pack, just out of curiosity, and it worked! Front and back are now perfectly normal.

I am having the exact same problem. When you look at the fuse, is it the one labeled ACC?

I have learned from many a year working on electrical equipment to always check fuses with an ohm meter to verify they are in fact bad, and to check any replacement fuse before installing it.
