Installed the new Toyota timing belt tonight. Just happened to see the metal threads showing at one rib. Looks to be a construction joint. Is this normal?

Thanks ahead!

I didn't notice it on mine. Just to be safe, I would get it swapped out if you can.

if it were just that ring showing, I would probably just cut it off and run it.

but, you can see it throughout, the rubber isn't covering the entire thing. I wouldn't want that metal to metal contact on the gears.

I would swap it.

What is the make of that belt?

Yes, you need to get a better belt. Those metal hooks will wear out in few rounds and the belt can snap.

Thanks all for the thoughts. Heading back to Toyota at lunch to get a replacement.

I don`t see anything wrong with this belt, I doubt those are metal bands.

yours doesn`t look half bad.

Talked w/ master tech at Toyota and he answered by questions and concerns. Going to keep it as is and just keep an eye on it (just for my own concerns because I'm used to owning American vehicles).
