New tires caused me to hydroplane? 4runner totalled and going to court. Need advice

if your rear tires were replaced at 8k and now your car is at 12k and your fronts are completely bald then shouldnt you buy new tires for the rear and swap the rears with only 4k to the front. unless your are using a different size tire for the rear, isnt that the logical thing to do?

yeah sorry again, he may very well be a decent person, but it seems like often times you come across posts where the author is so eager to voice his opinion on the matter, that you wonder wheter they even paused to think about the idea they are trying to convey.

The car comes from the factory with a staggered tire setup. The rear tires are a different size than the fronts. Hence the reason for my question. Nobody can say that you HAVE to put the new tires on the rear of that car because they physically can't in this case.

As I was saying before, I've been racing cars for years and am EXTREMELY experienced with vehicle dynamics. I have been called upon to instruct at numerous novice schools and have a lot of experience with racing cars and how they handle at the limits. I am not the 'idiot, moron, blah blah blah' you all think I am. I am highly respected in my region and am on the Board of Directors for the local AutoCross club. Before you blast me, thinking I don't know what I'm saying, maybe you should have asked for my credentials.

Thank you for being disrespectful after I was simply trying to instruct everybody about vehicle dynamics and explain the truth behind the Michelin video that everybody watched.

First off I could care less about your "credentials"- secondly I dont think I was being disrespectfull to you, if your read my posts you would have known that I said I was kidding,as well as saying that the only problem with buying new tires for the rear and swapping the old ones to the front would be a size difference. As I said before; those guys NEVER ONCE countersteered in that Michelin video. When the tail begins to rotate in a vehicle, you are supposed to countersteer AND gently apply more throttle. THEY DIDN'T DO THAT!!!!!!!!

I don't think 95% of drivers would countersteer.

A lot of the time, it probably happens to fast for anyone to react. Most people have their mind on something else when they are driving.

It looks like putting new tires on the rear helps to reduce loss of control, but not recover?

Most people just don't realize how important it is to pay 100% attention to the task at hand when they are behind the wheel. If they did, there would be a lot fewer collisions out there. (I refuse to call them 'accidents' because most of them could be avoided).

If there is a truth behind the Michelin video, I would strongly suggest that you contact Michelin and tell them that they are wrong and have it removed. Should I get you the number?

Not patting myself on the back at all... Just trying to get everybody to realize that I'm not just "being an idiot" and trying to explain that even though you all don't believe me (likely due to lack of knowledge on the subject matter), I do know what I'm talking about.

But then again, I'm probably wasting my energy; you all have made it clear that you don't care to better understand it. You have DSC, traction control, etc, to save you from your lack of desire to understand simple vehicle dynamics. God forbid you're ever in another vehicle that doesn't have all the electronic crutches that the 4Runner has.

Oh sure, I'd love to work for Penske, slaving away hours on end on the open road, away from my wife for days/weeks at a time, only to bring home peanuts... Yeah, that sounds like a glorious job. But then again, that's probably big bucks to you based on you even suggesting that as being a superior job to have.

Oh, and who is DEI? Last I heard, they were an electronics company that makes small vehicle electronics; mainly car alarms.

As for the Michelin contact info.... Absolutely. I would love to send them a letter or phone them about it. Perhaps if they would help educate people how to handle a situation like that, they wouldn't have to be so concerned about where tires are mounted on a vehicle.

well my lack of experience tells me you sound kind of pompous, nobody likes a smartass, and you come in here saying Im on the board of directors, I instruct racing classes blah blah blah. Then you try to insult us by saying we drive cars that have "crutches" so we dont have good driving skills. Atleast most of us here have enough sense to pony up the cash for a 4WD. Id like to see counter steer your way up some of the trails i go on.
