New Tires options Thread 2020!

Hello, 4runner world,

It's time for some new tires on the runner. I have about 30k on my 285/75/17 Nitto Ridge grapplers. They have been excellent in everything I have put them through. They still have about 50% tread life left and wore evenly. They are a bit louder and are not as good in the rain and I assume winter conditions as they once were. I would buy them again.

Anyway. Here are what I'm cross-shopping. Looking for All-Terrain to wheel with, Winter ability, tread wear, road noise, and lastly good looks.

What's got you thinking those? What about the tire your running now?

X2 on the generals.

Had the at2s before and the atx's are one above them. Wore like iron, have a warranty, not loud, great in the snow and very affordable.

Have the Falken wildpeaks. Great in rain and snow. Quiet, soft and tacky. Only have 10k on them so far. Wear isn't bad Can't attest to offroad ability other than logging roads which they were fine.

What's got you thinking those? What about the tire your running now?

Currently on Wildpeak AT3W but I made a mistake and ordered P rated tires. They are great on road but soft offroad and I've had two flats in a year and a half. Meant to get C load but didn't notice until it was too late.

The ATX look good (I know, give me a break) have awesome reviews and price isn't bad. I'm on the fence between them and some straight up MT tires for my next set. Maybe some STT Pro's or Yokohama Geolander G003.

I have the Grabber AT2's on a 3rd gen (were on my 4th gen for a while). They're better than my BFGs in the rain, but not by much.

The AT2's got my V8 4th gen up some pretty gnarly highway in the dead of winter to Pemberton (through whistler, BC). Ice, snow, wind, packed snow on ice. They were okay. Again, probably better than the BFGs would have handled the same circumstances. A friend was following me in a Taco stuck in 2wd on winter tires. I had significantly more capability with AWD on the AT2s than his 2wd on winters.

If the ATX is even better, it's certainly worth consideration.

I was talking to a fellow {EDIT: Driving a pickup truck clearly used for logging services] about his Toyo Open Country ATIIs, and he said all the forestry guys run them 'cuz they're tough as hell, good all around, and never give up. the ATIII isn't in Canada yet, but according to Toyo, they're an improvement over the ATII across the board.

When I replace my BFGs, I'll probably be looking at the Toyo ATIII
