New to Forum/Plasti Dip Whole Car

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum. My girlfriend has a 2004 4Runner which is silver in color, and we're thinking about ordering the Pro Car Kit from dipyourcar.com and plasti dipping her entire truck white, then blacking out the rims with black plasti dip.

I have a F150 and have used plasti dip quite a bit. I was wondering if anyone on this forum knew how the plasti dip would hold up, and also if anyone knows where to find any pictures of a plasti dipped 4 runner. Google images didn't come up with much.

I've plasti dipped a few parts on my '95 runner and it's holding up pretty well so far. Anything chrome, I'm covering. Did the mirrors over a year ago and they still look good. Even after a few spray washes and automatic car washes. None of it peeled off.
Didn't know they sold a whole car kit. Much cheaper than applying vinyl.

That's pretty cool! I'd do it. Cheaper than vinyl and probably easier to do after a ton of masking.

I've seen other sites where people have done their roofs, hoods and/or trunk. Never went back to see how they held up though. My wheels & emblems are plati-dipped & they are holding up well. Had a VW GLI that a did the grill with. That held up very well, especially with all the bugs I use to scrub off. Be careful what you put on the plasti-dip after. Some aftermarket products, especially wheel cleaners will eat that thing off. I say do it!

I just finished my door handles this weekend and have done the emblems and rear chrome trim. Let us know how it turns out.

did my entire MKIV Golf. Not impressed with the durability, currently removing it all. It's fine in spots, did most of my front bumper on the 4Runner and it's great. But on the doors and quarter panels if anything touches them it will tear/rip the dip. Mine was only in perfect condition for 2 days before I nicked it with my dog's plastic crate and left an inch wide tear in the dip. Used 24 cans for the whole car with 6 coats throughout. Don't waste your time doing the entire car. You could consider doing bumpers and such though, I would use 8 coats personally, the thicker it is the more resiliant it will be and also the easier it will be to remove.

Not really. It's not like paint where it will have clean edges around a chip. It peels back like tape. It's like latex that's been stretched over the surface; it's in tension. If you tear it or cut it, the surrounding plastidip pulls at it and there will be no easy way to repair it. You could possible cut around it with razor blade and peel out the middle area but yous probably mess up your paint doing that. But gooogle it, there might be a way!

Did you scuff up the paint before applying the plastidip? Or were you just looking for a more temporary covering? I think if the surface was scuffed up, it would hold better.

Saw it mentioned in one of the videos. I've got really old paint so this would be a much cheaper option than spending $1000 plus for a paint job on a $2000 vehicle.
