new to me crazy stuff

so, new to me 4 runner and driving the past two weeks
1) the gas gauge . I was real disappointed with my mpg by going off the gas gauge and guessing. figured I was getting less than 15 mpg. crap. went in to fill it up at less than a quarter tank showing, only took 10.4 gallons. that means it should have been reading just under half a tank, that means im getting near 18 mpg...much better
2) the brakes suck. I drive in the high cascade mountains, and these brakes suck. And the dealer ( previous owner records) did rotors and pads less than 15k ago. Big tundra brakes was on my to-do list...just move up to the top of the list, I will do the LBj's at same time
3) did not notice at dealer, or the past few weeks, but the past few days it has been parked at a somewhat level place...got the rear end droop going on
4) antenna works when it wants to and when it does, goes up only half way Im guessing

That's not too bad considering within the first 2 months of owning mine I had to replace my entire rear axle, rotors, spark plugs, battery, and charcoal canister haha. Welcome to owning a 4Runner.

LOL, I thought too my gas gauge was reading incorrectly, I get about 275-300 miles to a tank on average. Even though about 100 miles are at E.

Tundra Brakes are WAYYY better than your stock pads, the difference is 100% night and day. Stop better all the time, you dont have that mushy pad after slowing down for the toll road (dont have eztag) :sad:

I still have the rear end sadness, although I did my whole front end, I am doing a lift here in the next 3 weeks, to get the sag fixed and to get 3 inches extra height. :dance:

Previous owner went through a car wash with her radio on and broke the antenna off...

Those seem to be common 4Runner issues, you're talking about. The gas gauge is a joke, but tundra brakes should make a big difference for you. I'm still running the stock sized brakes, and I don't mind it.

The antenna is also a common issue with this truck. If it bothers you, you can install a non-power Tacoma Antenna, to replace your stocker. Here's a link to the how to:

As for the rear sag.... a very common Toyota issue. I've gotten rid of mine, using the front coils from a 93 Landcruiser FZJ80. Gave me about 4" of lift in the back, combined with 3" of front lift which I got from the struts of a 2002 Tundra Access cab 4x4. (used a 4Runner top plate spacer from Toytec as well)


Overall, these trucks are very dependable and great trucks. If I had the budget, I'd be buying everyone I see for sale, and keep a collection of these babies!

THere's a wealth of knowledge on this forum about these trucks... don't be afraid to post a question, or Private message these guys. I'm not always around to answer pressing questions, but usually get to a computer every Friday and Saturday, so can answer some stuff then.
