I'm new to the t4R. I just bought a low mileage 05' Sport V8 4wd. It only has 57,000 miles on the clock and is in pretty good shape. Overall I'm thrilled with the vehicle and wish I would have been driving 4 runners for the last 20 years.
It has a slight but noticeable whine as it accelerates through the gears. It increases with RPM and only happens when the drive is engaged. It definitely sounds like some kind of gear noise. This is my first experience with a full time 4wd system, but the noise is similar (but not nearly as loud) to a part time 4wd system that is engaged in low range accelerating through the gears. I'm just wondering if this is normal for the full time systems or if I need to get something looked at.
I didn't have much service history to go on when I bought it. I drove it almost imediately to a reputable dealership to (overpay) for a 60,000 mile service so I had a good baseline service to start with. They serviced the front and rear diffs, among other things but didn't touch the transmission as far as I know. I just wanted to get others opinions before I start chasing some noise that might be totally normal on this truck. Any help appreciated.
