New Toyo open country AT's on .

Well sort of . We put them on the Escape since the tires were loud and road like total crap. The were the regular Bridgestone Dueller AT'S. These babys really howled on the road.

I have not driven it yet , (thank God ) but she said they are nice and quite and ride smooth. (P rated).

Now she waits for a snow storm.

I just put Toyo Open Country A/T's on my 1995 4Runner. 265/75-R16 on 7" wide Tundra or Tacoma(not exactly sure) rims without any suspension mods.
Look and ride sweet. New snow up on Mt. Hood so we'll be doing winter driving shortly.

I ran two sets of those on my old Trooper. I liked them a lot. I found the ride, wet and noise performance to be very good considering it's a mild A/T. What made me go for the second set was two things: They held balance perfectly, one rebalance at 5k then one more at 30-35k was all they needed. The other thing was I was coming off of Michelins. I can't remember if they were LTX's or X-C4's but I never had so many flats in my life. I would have bet money the steel in the belts had been magnetized.:lmao: In the 2 sets of the Toyo's I think I may have picked up one nail... I then switched to Geolander ATII's. They were ok off-road but rode rough and were a pain to balance. Once balanced they were fine. No flats though.

I guess that's an advantage of keeping a car for 160k, you get experiment with tires

I tend to trade tires out a bit early and I'd get about 45k-50k on them. Overall I considered them to be a good overall value.

I can't speak to snow performance, sorry.

I rode in the car today with my wife , night and day different in quiet , ride quality , and the BS AT's were not old or worn that were on there . HOLY CRAP !! a huge difference !!!

I hate driving that car and probably drove it a handful to times since it's purchase in 04. I still hate it but the tires made a huge difference for her .

Falls, did you ever end up getting the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors for your truck? The reason I ask is because I knew you were pretty serious about getting them a little while ago. I got my Silent Armors put on my truck on Tuesday. They're awesome.

On a related note, my friend had those Toyo tires on his truck and had nothing but good things to say about them (except they were a little pricey).

No I did not , wish I would have but didn't have enough time to get it done , actually had my wife take the truck in and I just told her to replace what was on there instead of trying to explain the whole situation to her. They are a decent tire and decent good milage for an AT , so I just flew with it. My lease is up in Feb 09 , if I buy it out ( hope to if the values are correct ) then I will probably swap them out since I like to try different things.

They performed very well except in hard packed wet ice coated snow . BUT I have never had a tire that performed good in that stuff , so.....

She picked them out since I was gone . Like I said in my post the ride quality was nice,quiet,smooth from a passenger point of view , it made a nice difference for HER. I'm sure she does not even know what a Nitto is. Sure doesn't look like a Nitto to me.

She has to drive it and like's them alot. That then makes it the best tire for her.

I am curious to see what she has to say in snow driving.

Thai , I looked a some magazine pictures and see what you mean about the Toyo's and similar to the Nitto's . I could not tell and really never looked those tires before , but I guess I did not notice the resemblance since the one's on the Escape are so tiny compared to what I've seen in the pictures.

Yes,the Toyos should act the same in the rain as the Nittos which means they will do well and that's one area I do like with an A/T since some A/Ts hydroplane resistance leaves a bit to be desired.

Falls, yeah, i wasn't meant to be insulting to any tire with what i said above. Really, if you find the Toyo OP AT to be a great tire, then Nittos should provide you the same satisfaction. You may find the BFG AT KO to be harder riding. You may find the GY SilentArmor to be more fuel thirsty. From reading your past experiences, i think that something along the lines of Nittos, Toyos, REVOs or even Yokohama Geolander AT-S (sleeper!) will do you well.

Yes I understand what you are saying , although like I said , this is not my vehicle and I did not pick the tires. Chances are if I ride in it 2x per year I'd be lucky . So it does not matter to me as long as the wife is safe.

As the BFG , I know they ride a little stiffer . I have has 14 sets to date so far I'm VERY familiar with them. This is the first 4x4 I have not had them on ......yet
