New TRD Pro - Need mild lift options

Title says it all....Got the fantastic suspension setup and would like to not drop the coin on another full blown kit.

Wifey and I intend to use the vehicle for micro adventure/overlanding, and believe that we could probably benefit from an additional inch or two of ground clearance. I have not yet factored in the weight of a roof rack, sliders and other additions to come yet, so I haven't started to study spring rates.

So the big question I have is, would a spacer lift fit the bill here? I realize a lot of spacer lifts are for leveling vehicles, and I don't need to level...The stance is already perfect. I would like to lift the front and rear proportionally.

Any thoughts from the group?

Stock setup on the pro is already a mild lift bilstein coilover with reservoir. Why would you change that out, I personally wouldnt touch it unless youre upgrading to a full lift. A spacer on that stock setup would not help it much.

Ok mace, you got me on that on LOL....Let me downgrade that from "fantastic" to "pretty ok" :biggrin2:

I know that it is no icon stage 5, but I am hoping that the stock TRD PRO setup will probably fit my needs pretty well for a while at least. We will be doing pretty mild off roading and mild adventure overlanding...No crawling, snorkeling or other sheet metal smashing activities.

I'm not knocking the TRD Pro suspension, I just wasn't clear if you had made any changes yet. I would wait and get a better idea of what other stuff you're going to add before making any decisions. I would agree in leaving it as is or going for a full lift and skip the spacers.

I dont think you will "Benefit" from a lift if all you are doing is overland/adventure. the stock setup is more than capable. depending on how much gear you are gonna haul around you might want stiffer springs or airbags. Spend the money on a roof rack, jerry cans, an ARB fridge and a nice gun:cheers:

Thanks Stifler.....That is kind of the info I was digging for. Maybe I should stop lurking the build threads and get some real priorities in order :cheers:

If I had a TRD PRO I would personally sell the stock suspension for good money and buy a ICON lift or something similar.

I like TRD PRO exterior cosmetic touches and small interior changes a lot.

I saw a TRD PRO at the OC Auto Show the there seems to be no ride height increase at all compared to the SR5 or Trail model which is very disappointing to me because I hate how the front end of the 4runner sits so low.

Preproduction 4runner TRD Pro pictures of the suspension height were very very misleading by Toyota.

Go ahead a put a suspension lift on it, it would look like a bad a** truck!

The guys who really truly overland adventure try not to lift it much, if any. Any lift will not improve static ground clearance. Bigger tires will do that and a lift will only improve approach/departure angles a bit. Now, if your "adventures" are built around going to malls then by all means, put a spacer lift on. Off road? No. I have a link in my signature that could help you learn about modifying for overlanding.

it's a 1.5 inch lift for the front with 1" extra wheel travel for the 4runner

Move the front springclip on the bilsteins to the top notch and get the toytec/eibach rear springs and you should be set, or just run a spacer in the rear, it has less effect on suspension geometry compared to the front

I had seen in another thread where that was mentioned as a possibility....Apparently the fronts are indexed at .85, but I did not hear anyone confirm, and have not confirmed myself if these shocks have other adjustments as a 5100 normally has.

I would take a look at that see if there is another ring above your current setting....I hope there is, as it would great for all that want that little extra....
