New TrueFlow

Ok guys I should start by saying I have an 02 Auto. Previously had just a normal paper filter. This filter comes out of the box with a very rigid frame and the fit is extremely tight...I checked three times to make sure I installed it correctly before closing the lid. Got mine from Jason Burtman and in our discussions he said it may take 200 miles until I noticed anything since the EFI needed to catch up...well

I love this filter!!!! Didn't take 200 miles for me to notice a Diff! I installed Friday night but didn't drive until Sat. Put about 20 miles on with a wind blowing but still noticed more power when pulling away from a dead stop. Truck also shifted a bit smoother. This was all on roads I really don't drive on much. REAL test was today on the way to work. In addition to what I have mentioned previously I also notice on some hills where the truck would usually downshift from high gear that it just motored thru with no downshifting. I wanted to see if this would improve so I tried to duplicate the way I normally drive this road, speed etc. This filter impresses me. I've put about 50 miles on so far, should I expect it to get better? If not that's fine it impressed the hell out of me now!

I too am a recent purchaser of the TRUE FLOW from Jason Burtman, which by the way is an awesome and honest seller. Really knowledgeable about his stuff and will give you any advice before purchasing.

So, I did the unplugging of the EFI (15A fuse)...or you can disconnect the battery to reset the computer. After about 200 miles, sure enough, I observed much improvement. You are also right about the up-hill shifting. I like the little sound of a whistle too that you experience. Not loud, but its there.

Next thing (if weather permits this weekend) is doing the deck-plate mod. I already bought the plate from Boater's World and am ready to mod.

By next payday, I will purchase the Vortex and do some custom piping to the back, much like Jason did.

Thundercloud---good luck to you.

jev2022,

I listened again today for a wistle but can't seem to hear one. Maybe the 01's airbox is slightly diff than the 02, not sure, maybe someone else here can help with that one.

I should also state in addition to my first post that I did not remove the fuse or disconnect the battery. Just installed the filter in the driveway and when done moved the truck into the garage. Next morning went for a drive and as soon as the truck came up to Temp. noticed the improvement and it got even better the next day.

It's almost like I removed a clogged old dirty filter (I didn't, the one I took out had 8K on it and still looked 95% clean) and put in a clean one. That's the best way I can descibe the improvement. Still amazes me something that simple and easy to do can make that big of an improvement.

Mafster,

Hope someone here can comment on the 4th Gen. If you would gain half as much improvement I have had it still would be worth it IMO

I can back up THUNDR CLOUD on this one...the True Flow is by far the best filter money can buy for our 3rd gens.

Perfect fit, lasts up to 30k or so depending on your driving habits and its as simple as cleaning and re-oiling.

I guarantee you will notice a difference after several hunder miles, amazing! I was skeptical, I'll admit...the second I installed it and saw how well it fit I thought to myself, maybe this IS the real deal...200 miles later, best purchase I've made in quite some time.

By the way, I'm new to the forum, I've been on YT (yotatech.com) for several years now...just so I don't seem like some nOOb, lol.

You can get the filter from Jason B. here:

Best service and just a great guy to work with!

Fink man, good to hear from you

I'm with you...We have some more comments over on YotaTech about this same filter. Not trying to steal anyone away from here just think that this is a good product and that's what the forumn's are about...

Ok, I gotta ask...any improvement in mileage? You got yours after I got mine but at last recall you had more miles on it. Please don't tell me that you don't know cuz, you either didn't check or you can't keep your foot out of it!

I've got just about 200 miles on mine as I type this...mileage with your foot off the skinny has got to go up...temptation will be your downfall... :bash:

Haven't filled up yet, but from the looks of the tripo I will...I've gotten about 27 more miles on this half tank of gas than I've gotten before...

But, it may be too early to tell...I'm sure there will be SOME increase, if not, the extra power is enough for me!

So your saying you have kept your foot off the SKINNY? HeHe

I'll probably get bashed for this, but I found myself doing in excess of the speed limit (how much is my secret) and I must add in a clear area with no cross traffic, no pedestians and a clear view of any thing that may be in front of me for a half mile.

I didn't mat it, rather a gradual exceleration and there is a huge difference...best I can describe is just more throttle responce.

If you drive with your shoe off the Skinny there Is no doubt in my mind you will see improvement...I don't keep track so someone else will have to comment on the improvement in mileage.

I'll be able to post up about in a few days, however, with my cat. converter problems I've been having, the reading won't be accuarte until its all cleared up.

You guys love the filter...you should try the intake system!! Lots louder, and got me 2 more mpg. Its a few more $$...but well worth it.

As far as I can tell the only thing they did was get ride of the intake silencer...the ISR mod is just about the same and it's a lot cheaper too.

Maybe you could snap a few pics of it installed on your rig so we can see what its all about.

air filter

Well, I just installed the True Flow in my 02 SR5. I immediately drove it and noticed the sound of the engine is different so I must be pulling air easier.

I only have 35,000 on my 2WD and only drive it occasionally, but should be seeing results before long.

The filter must have changed some because it was simple to install; not a tight fit in the least. Just perfect.

Kudos to Jason,,, the unit was on backorder and I got 2 emails from him updating me on the situation. A true gentleman concerned about service,,,, gee how strange!

You have found a friend in Jason. I get most of my stuff from him. Jason only sells the highest quality and stands behind his stuff. Sure you could get a Knock off from Ebay for less in some cases but do you get someone who will stand behind their product...not always. He also has a very good eye as to what looks good on the 4runner. Anyway enough soap.

I couldn't tell from your post if you just installed tonight or not. Please update us as you drive it more esp. on the roads you usually travel. Im curious if you see the same results with the 2WD as I did with the 4. I hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

true flow

Yep,,, I installed it ten minutes after I got it. I only drove about 22 miles after installation so I noticed nothing different except the sound of the engine. Geez,,,, I noticed that in the driveway!

I'm an old retard,,,, uh,,,, retired guy (just 53 though) so I don't really have a set pattern to my driving. I've driven vettes all my life and do appreciate performance and thus am tuned in to anything different about the 4runner.

This will be interesting to see how it changes things. Maybe I'll get one for my brides MDX next.

Sweet 53 and retired...my parents were able to do that...congrats! Actually don't worry about the age thing...I'm just 10 behind you...lots of good people here and so much information!

Now, how has the filter been to ya?

true flow on 4th gen v8

Mafster,

I installed this a few weeks back and didn't notice a real difference............until I reset the ECU, and then a I have noticed the same kind of bump that the 3geners are reporting here. Definitely worth it!

THUNDERCLOUD- good posts.

TRUE FLOW paired up with the VORTEX muffler....awesome marriage there guys. Definitely alot better throttle response. The best low cost way to add some umphh in our rigs!
