I don't know of any notorious problems in the 07's but I have heard a lot about 08 problems. ie: the doors aren't as solid when they close, annoying engine noises that the salesmen claim to be "normal", and some even say that the steering wheel is smaller. I think there are some other complaints about toyota taking shortcuts in the 08 models, do a search on here and you can probably find them.

There seems to an arguement for the '07 on a few points. I have an '07 and the negative of the '07 is the side-airbags are optional, on the '08 they're standard. The '07 I have does have the bags which I consider very important. If it's important to you make sure the '07 your considering has them... Good Luck!

You have peaked my interest now...will have to take a look into this...not that it matters really...I already signed on the dotted line for my 08

If you're looking at buying the 2007 from a private party, try and find out A. why they are selling it and B. who has been driving it. It may be more difficult to get an honest answer if you are buying from a dealership, as they will most likely tell you "what you want to hear".
Anyway, my point is the engine in particular, may be in better shape if the truck was driven by a soccer mom, as opposed to a young male driver (hey, I'm a guy and I once was a teen). You made the statement that not much can be done in only 2000 miles, but the reality is, that alot of damage can be done in only the first 1000 miles if the engine is not properly broken in.
I don't know all of the details on this subject, but I do know the truck should be driven "very gently" like grandma in the first 1000 miles. Maybe some of the other members can help me out here, but I believe "jack rabbit" starts, driving at high speeds, excessive periods of idling, long periods or driving at the same speed and same RPM, and towing are not good for the engine when it's brand new.
Yes, you'll have the Toyota factory warranty, but many problems (from an improper break in) may not appear until after the warranty period is over.
Just be careful. You're most likely OK, but anytime you buy used, it's always a "buyer beware" situation.
My Mom purchased a Camry with less than 3,000 miles on it about 10 years ago, and let's just say she was very dissapointed. She got a great deal on it, but regretted the purchase almost immediatley.
The car had many issues and was in the shop far more than average for a new Toyota. She sold it after ony 4 or 5 years and bought another Camry (brand new this time) and guess what, ZERO problems with the new car.
When I bought my 4Runner, it had 7 miles on the odometer. That's a great peace of mind for me.
