New used 08 Sport with 36K...what to do 1st?

So new owner of sweet puuurrrfect 2008 sport with 36k mis. I've checked the Toyota owner link for previous service and minimal entries exist. Must have been a Jiffy Lube special.

What would you guys do first and foremost to give you peace of mind on starting your new life with a used 36K 4Runner?

Some Notes..

Intake filter looked good.

Oil changed by dealer.

Brakes feel good.

Levels and fluids visible in reservoirs look good.

Dunlop OEM Tires maybe have 5000 mi left. What is a good replacement to get similar OEM quiet and all season performance?

What the heck is the propeller thing Toyota keeps referring to lubing in the maintenance manual?

Should I change the diff and tranny fluids?

Any help appreciated!

As far as tires... I cant say enough good things about the Bridgestone Revos. Quiet, grippy, bad ass looking. I'm sure the new Revo 2s are just as good. Fantastic tires.

Diff fluid... probably not a bad idea. I'm a big M1 fan myself.

Thanks guys! Thanks for the maintanance link and I've been reading over some of the DIY's. I especially want to get the oil canister pump for the easy means of doing the changes. And I will check out those tires -



For mods I haven't seen any all white with white wheels or white nerfs. For mods I might white out my nerfs.

If you have the coin there is an option available URD, He has a modified version for the 4Runner that is out there, it's just big $ + you'll need to do a valve body upgrade on the tranny to reliably take the additional power. Gadget has always been "better" than TRD in honestly accounting for the correct requirements of the Toyota motors being boosted, he actually drove the efford TRD made to fix the 3.4L supercharger "mistakes".

You can use the TRD supercharger but you need the FJ fit kit and should tune it with the APR X1.

I'm in that process right now. I just got an 06 V8 RWD with only 19K on the clock.

Right now I just did the K&N filter, removed the hydrocarbon filter and added some WaterWetter to the coolant. I plan to wait until 30K to play with the differential fluid, Power Steering and brake fluid because the owner before me practically took it to Toyota for any squeak they heard. I am waiting about 5K to change the oil out to a Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W30 (was considering the Castrol Syntec 0W30), but will definitely use a larger sized K&N HP-2009 oil filter.

Update on refreshing used purchase with 36K miles...

Changed oil to Mobile 1 synthetic. 1st time running syth in any car. Will go to a 7500 change schedule. Autozone has a Mobile 1 5.x quart and filter for $29 deal ending 5-5-10

Cleaned engine bay after squirting used oil all over using stupid Harbor Freight pump.

Lubed all zerc fittings with Valvolene Moly synth blend and man did they need it.

Lubed the steering stops as suggested - good tip!

Silicone spray on all window channels. Helps power window motors love you long time.

Wiper blades to those $$$ blingy Bosch one. Cool cool!

Ummm.....oh yeah, First cleaning MAF with Radio Snack clearner lube and that was stupid. Bought some electronic cleaner and that worked perfect. The dedicated cleaner is $$$ ouch. Also cleaned the throttle body and was surprised at how dirty it was. That gave it some nice peppiness fo sho.

Cleaned up leather steering back to stock less shiney preowner chick lotion or whatever was on there. Sick.

Still to do: change out diff and t case fluids. Clay and polish/wax detail full ride. Polish little dang dog toenail scratches off tachometer clear plastic lense.

Next mods - Those cool tech mats and some new OEM mats.

You can puchase a new clear plastic shield that goes over the speedometer and gauges for like $30 from the dealer and put it in yourself, it's easy. I did mine.

Yeah the clear plastic that covers ours and all speedos is scratched badly over the tachometer. Thanks for the tip on getting one from the dealer - I will check it out!

Looks like youve got a good start. I changed the diff fluids in mine in addition to the engine oil when I pickedd up 4R #2 @ 30K miles.

Did you check air filter/cabin filter?

After the sunroof TSB thing I took to lubing the sunroof myself.

I put an HID kit in mine works great with the factory projos.

Weather-Tech liners.

Just an FYI you are still under 5yr/60K powertrain warranty, so you might want to either stick with the OEM oil change interval or practice creative record keeping depending on your feeings on that matter.

You are definitely off to a good start. I just changed my front/rear diff and t case this weekend and that was much easier than changing the oil in my 04 V8. Post pics of your new T4R when you get the chance. Welcome to the T4R family.

Ditto on the tires. Loved em on my cherokee. They wore nice, were quiet, gripped well, and were fairly reasonably priced. got em thru firestone.

Will check out those Revo kicks for the ride as they sound nice. Will mostly be doing Texas HWY driving and some ventures into the snowy north.

Also plan to replace the plastic cover over the speedo so if anyone has info on how to do that please advise.
