New wheels and tires installed today

Had some new wheels and tires fitted today. Tires are 275/70R17 Cooper Discoverer S/Ts and the wheels are from a Sequoia, which I stripped down and refinished in a clearcoated graphite color.

I really like the way they look and they're relatively quiet on the highway too. So far, so good.

new wheels and tires

Nothing says LOVE like new tires. Am I the only one who walks through the tire section of stores just to catch that "new rubber" smell?:whoo: Otherwise, I'm pretty much normal. And I did throw new Michelins on my 4runner as well as my utility trailer last week. You'd think the tire guys would at least send me a post card or something after all that cash!

Ha, thanks! I'm super happy with the look of the new wheels and tires. I know black wheels are all the rage, but decided to go with a graphite color so you could see the pattern of the wheel a little more.

The tires look slightly more aggressive than a standard all terrain, so I like that too.
 
looks great. you are going to love those cooper stt. I had them on my jeep loved them. great on the rocks in the mud. self clean tread siping on the lugs and If I remeber I think they where 8ply sidewall. only thing I didn't like was in soft sand they would dig in and not float on top of the sand. thats because of the agressive. tread but the had no problem going threw the sand your rig will just work a little harder in soft sand.I.will be putting them on my 4r.
 
those photos really do an excellent job of highlighting those new wheels and tires, as well as your overall 4Runner

do you happen to have the Tundra brake upgrade on your 4Runner?
 
That is sweet looking, great combo! This is very similar to something I had in mind, would you mind giving some info on how you stripped and finished those wheels? I just picked up these and was thinking they may look cool in a charcoal or gunmetal gray.

No Tundra brakes. If I ever have a brake problem I will go that route though. It seems like the natural path to take since I already have Tundra springs and wheels. This thing might be all Tundra by the time I'm done. :)

Arn24--are those wheels chrome? I'm not sure how to best paint over chrome plating; but at a minimum you would need to scuff up the chrome to give something for the paint to stick to. In my case, I use aircraft paint remover to strip the original Toyota clearcoat and paint off the wheels. It took three applications before all of it was gone. Then I primed with two coats of primer, then three coats of Duplicolor Graphite wheel paint. Spray paint imperfections build-up, so I followed the can's directions and gave the wheels a week to fully cure, then I wet-sanded them to get them smooth. Then I hit them with one final coat of graphite and 2 coats of clear coat.

You could skip the wet-sanding stage since that adds a week of down-time, but the finish won't be as smooth and glossy.
 
Polished aluminum, although they're pretty rough right now, so... not-so-polished aluminum. I'm going to try them polished first, but I may try painting my stock wheels later. Thanks for the info, and again, looks fantastic!
 
Sand the polished aluminum to rough it up and you can paint over it fine. Duplicolor also makes a filler primer that will fill in the pits in aluminum. Go to their website and they have a pdf document that describes the best ways to refinish wheels. I used all duplicolor products thinking they might work best together. And thanks for the complements! I thought people only liked black wheels, haha.
 
That looks great. I am jealous I hate to say. I even like the front flaps.

I think that white can really hold its color well on these 4runners if they are taken care of.

Who drives the TSX wagon?

The wheels and tires made a big difference in setting mine apart from the millions of other white 4runners running around. It actually gets noticed now. :-)

The TSX is my wife's. We just got married last month and this is our first new car. It gets a consistent 35 mpg on the highway and it's nice to drive. There aren't many wagons being sold in America these days, other than cross overs and SUVs.

We need to get the windows tinted on it. White cars look lame with non-tinted windows.

It's so dumb. I love a good wagon. Wagons are perfect! Dream car is the RS6 Avant.

Wheels and tires look great. Really adds a different look to the rig. Love the white too.

Audi made some of the best looking wagons on the road, like the A4/S4 Avant and the RS6 Avant, but Audi stopped making wagons all together. They even dropped the A3. Cross-overs attempt to be the jack-of-all trades, but the mileage isn't that great and they simply aren't any fun to drive.

Aside from a few $50,000+ offerings (Mercedes E-class wagon, Cadillac CTS & Audi Allroad wagons), the only real car-type wagons left are the Jetta wagon (which has reliability issues) and Subarus. Subaru quality has gone way down and we no longer like what they have to offer--the 6 cylinder Outbacks get terrible mileage and the 4 cylinder ones are extremely gutless & we hate the CVT transmissions. We almost forgot Acura even made a wagon, they sell so few of them.

Wheels and tires look great. Really adds a different look to the rig. Love the white too.

Thanks! I'm a huge fan of the gunmetal/graphite wheels on the newer cars, so I figured I would carry that over to my trusty 4Runner.

Yeah, not to mention they ditched the manuals too. My friend got the last model of the A6 wagon. I can't remember if it's a 2013 or a 2012. Supercharged. It's SICK.

I'm taking my own thread off topic, but for good cause. I wouldn't normally use the word "sick" and wagon in the same sentence, but the RS6 Avant is both.
