New wheels & tires

Hey - I'm down sizing to 16" wheels, and getting some nice deep dish wheels to make the tires stick out a little wider than the body. Getting BFG AT KO's. Getting dual exhausts. Flowmasters.

Getting California Concepts to do it. I'll post pics on Wednesday, hopefully.

I'm so stoked!

I'm selling my polished aluminum 17" wheels and tires if anyone is interested. I'll post pics of those later too -

As they will tell you, you might have some trouble downsizing because of the rotor size. Sounds like it should be pretty cool. Can't wait to see the pics.

I don't see it being an issue, as serveral 4 Runners come stock with 16" wheels, I believe the entire SR5 line has 16" wheels. Only the sport & Limited come with 17" wheels standard.

I believe that is because the Sport & Limited have bigger rotors and calipers.

They may have HAD to upsize the rims to fit on these models.

Cool, I'm glad it worked out for you. Nice truck BTW. What kind of exhaust did you put the tips on? Because I think the Borla dual setup dumps it out the side.

Thanks!

The exhaust is Flowmaster, and the tips are one of many you can choose from California Concepts. You can have them angled like the Borla's you've seen, or straight out the back, which I prefer.

The Sport has bigger calipers, the Limited and SR5 are the smaller ones.

I'm not so sure as to the accuracy of that statement. Can you post where you got that from?

My Limited has enormous brakes - Thai - any ideas on this?

Based on my research (a dealer tech sheet on 2004 4Runners), only the Sport Edition has the 13.3" front rotors, all the rest are 12.6" even if they have the 17" wheel option. In the pic below you can see how close the caliper is to the 17" front-wheel on an SE.

Shrinking tha wheel to a 16" looks like the caliper will hit on most wheels or at least be so close that stones and such will get caught between the wheel and caliper (had that happen on race car, not pretty). Does anyone know if there are 16" wheels that are contoured on the inside such that the 13.3" calipers will clear? I doubt it, but you never know...

16" rims

A friend of mine has an 03 Limited and obtained some 'take-off' rims for winter tires. The rims are 16's, and are believed to be off a Tacoma or Tundra. I am about to see if I can get some 16's for my 04 SR5, which comes with the optional 17" rims. Based on the SR5 and Limited having the same diameter rotors, I don't expect a problem.
